Clemson swing passes

Clemson’s offensive game plan was spot-on. They killed us with short and intermediate passing, especially their bubble screens and flare routes towards the sidelines. I think the refs slight us as much as anyone else, but I rarely saw holding by their WRs on these. And once we adjusted they would come back and hit one of their short 10yd slant/smash routes over the middle. They might have tried a lot of that pick crap they did against Bama last year but I couldn’t tell. Bottom line, it was obvious coming in that Clemson felt they might not have success with prolonged protection against our DL since they rarely left Bryant back there for long. It was also obvious that they felt they would have trouble running the ball with RBs and throwing deep balls as well. This is a compliment to our front 7 and back end speed. Clemson coaches were smart enough to gameplan around our strengths.

We have a lot of youth in the secondary and Clemson knew how to create confusion without jeopardizing their average OL to protect Kelly and relying on WRs to get jump balls. Their short dink patterns drove me mad all night long while I was there. We had no answer, and failed to ever make their WRs pay with a violent collision or a pick.

Offensively, everything went wrong at the wrong time. Game plan I thought was OK because we were limited. Credit to Richt because he gave Homer a lot of touches and he had a decent game.

Just wasn’t our night. Between the fumble Young couldn’t get a grasp on to Badge’s missed fg, we just couldn’t catch a **** break. Their kicker, who has been abysmal all year, comes in and nails a 47yd fg?? Feagles shanked another one, couldn’t get any breaks.

I didn’t think the players quit at all. Jeff’s fumble off his long catch in the 3rd qtr was evident. He was trying to get too much. But Clemson did the same thing repeatedly on offense in which we failed to make adjustments.

I think we were out coached. Too many penalties and no defensive adjustments. We’ve got players to compete with anybody. They might not fit into Richt’s scheme right now, but Clemson’s offensive gameplan reflected that they definitely respected the athletes and physicality we have.

Clemson runs a simple offense but with so much smoke in mirrors and eye candy it looks confusing. That mixed with a dual threat qb, in spread form is hard to stop. That's why they continue to pump diesel yearly , no matter the qb.

It's a good system with top shelf talent mixed in.

Yep, their game plan is what our game plan should look like - great short passing game.
