Clemson - LSU Game Thread

Funny you bring that up. The team '01 was compared to when we were pronounced the best was '95 Nebraska, and since we just throttled a triple option team it seemed like a no brainer.

It goes both ways and the game evolves.

Game evolves, but you could run any of those offenses in any era. There’s no current rule to stop a team from running the triple option. Gtech went to the orange bowl running it in 2014. However, are we going to allow any type of hit to the qb, targeting, no concussion protocol, etc?

2 weeks might not be enough time for this LSU team to adjust all of those middle of the field plays that would make their WRs avoid the hit. How many quick slants and digs are they going to throw when Vilma, reed and Taylor are going face mask to face mask to break up a pass?

Different kind of triple option, and no one is saying GTech is GOAT.

If all we're holding on to is the impact of the targeting rule, then I hope all those LSU guys turn out to be busts in the NFL.

Is the national championship gonna go to the team with the senior graduate QB that prepares like an NFL QB with an army of staff? Why wouldnt every team just play a QB attending online classes?

Definitely a different type of triple option, and with much less talent than that Nebraska team. There are no current rules that I’m aware of that stop you from running the Nebraska offense today. You’d be fool, to do actually do it and not take advantage of the current rules.

No one can say what they’ll do in the NFL. The 01
team had busts like Rumph, McDougal and William Joseph. That doesn’t take away from what they did in college and their potential impact against another college opponent.

IIRC, Rumph was a first team AA and gave up zero TDs as a senior. He locked down a bunch of future NFL WRs in college, but got smoked by them in the pros.He was a big time bust at corner in the NFL. That doesn’t take away from what he could do in a college game matchup.

I must give credit where it is due. I expected Clemson to prevail, and when they were up 17-7, it seemed that's where things were going. LSU exploited #8 consistently and went back after him time and time again. They frustrated Clemson's offense as the game wore on. They put together one of the great CFB seasons. Proof that if you have a great staff, you can do great things.

I don’t think I saw LSU Or even Clemson use the I formation or. a fullback not even once this entire game.. **** we have been so far behind the times in offensive football...
lsu went from having 8 fullbacks on roster to goin 5 wide set dam near the entire game. They were a decent team to dam near goat status for one reason. SPREAD. Burrow went from just an possible 4th/5th round actually who cares qb to putting up the best dam qb season in college football history..
