The only thing that's "not right" is that our guys are leaving -- that's what is unusual. A top talent wanting to improve his draft stock is common.

Love is returning for Stanford.


This has me thinking. is this phenomenon more unique to certain schools than others?

if we go back over a 5, 10 or 20 year span...does a pattern emerge that shows some schools have better "luck" with getting their top talent to return than others?

Stanford has 4 guys leaving early this year, I believe.
 
Something really stinks here. The money don't lie this much. Kids don't turn down 1st round money like this.
 
Wouldn't surprise me in the least if there weren't some previous arrangements made when these kids sign, look we pay off mom's house/get dad that new job and you stay in school as long as we tell you to.

The athlete is under no obligation to honor the contract. If he bolts, what is the school going to do? Admit they violated NCAA rules so they can sue the kid? The reason these kids are coming back is to 1) improve draft stock and/or 2) win another title.

Chubb is a Senior and Josh Allen has entered the draft.

Talking about last year... They both would’ve went high in last year’s draft but both chose to stay for in chubb’s Case, his senior season and Josh allen’s Redshirt jr. year.

Stanford’s golden boy wouldn’t even play in their bowl last year for fear of getting hurt before the draft. Where’s the outrage there?

This is definitely true. But I've also heard Swinney and staff talk a lot about how they selectively recruit. They're looking for players with a certain mindset that will fit with the culture they've established there. Their recruiting rankings are very good but they are not quite in the same range as Alabama or OSU, which suggests they're not just grabbing at stars and selling their soul. They do seem to be more selective and apparently weed out some otherwise big names that could be more trouble than value.

Can we do that and build a team with such a mindset? In a big city? I don't know, but Richt does seem like the kind of coach who wants to develop a team culture that places a higher value on the college experience / loyalty and all those things. I'm a little skeptical of all the bagman talk. What do you get specifically? Loaner cars? Some cash here and there? Local "church" helps build house for your family, "finds" them a job? I know all that happens to some extent, but it's something you have to keep a low profile with and doesn't seem like it could compete with the lure of a real NFL contract if we're just talking $.
 
Take a good look @ Clemson's $55 Million funhouse.... and with the resource of other people being paid to write all your papers and pamper you,...what's the rush?
