Conflicting reports about whether Helton will be retained. If not I think he is a realistic option for OC.
-Pro style offense
-Bible thumper
-Great recruiter
-Personality match with Richt

I think Briles would be a good hire bust just dont see it being a good match with current administration or Richt.

I’d prefer freeze if we’re going with a previously fired bible dude. Although freeze has recently become a bible guy. He sure wasn’t before lol

Miami and USC are programs that are basically mirroring each other right now. Both have fallen from the highest of highs. Both have had myriad of crap coaches in recent years. Both are in talent rich environments. SC has had a little more success over the last 10 years but like Miami has underachieved with elite talent. Both are keeping coaches that can't get it done. Doesn't make me feel any better, but at least we're not alone in the feeling of hopelessness.

Both are inexplicably hellbent on running pro style offenses.

Usc and Miami should both consistently be top 8 programs at the very worst...the disgusting negligence that both of our school's admins have embellished in is ******* shameful

They’re like our west coast cousins cause we’re going through the same **** especially at the top because we can’t find the right AD, not just HC. But if you look at recruiting rankings and the fact that they’ve had significantly better QB play, if I was a fan of them I’d be fed up fr. Barkley, Kessler, then Darnold, now another 5 Star. All went in the first 3-4 rounds of the draft and have actually started NFL games. That’s high level ineptitude cause schools like Oklahoma and FSU who string together NFL QBs typically have success during that period.

Lynn Swann is their AD. They like to hire former coaches as AD. Hasn't worked out too well between him and Haden. Swann is quoted in the article as follows - sound familar??

"We see top programs across the country have down years and the fans want to change coaches," Swann said. "In fact, it happened a few years ago with yesterday's opponent [Notre Dame went 4-8 in 2016], but that administration remained committed to their head coach, who made some key changes, worked hard to fix things and got his team to improve markedly. That will happen here at USC."
"It is my firm belief that we have a good team returning next year and a solid foundation in place, and that Clay Helton is a good coach," Swann said in a statement. "Let me be clear to everyone, our players, our recruits and our fans. Clay Helton is our head coach and he will continue to be our head coach.
"I am a strong advocate of consistency within a program, sticking by a leader, supporting them and helping them and their team improve."

I think Helton should definitely get into the HOF.

Coors was a big advantage for him, no doubt, but the overall numbers are still very impressive.
If you look at his split stats away/home - he could still rake. He would sure grind out those professional at bats. Pure grit.

What Larry Coker was to Miami, Clay Helton is to USC. The nice guy loyal assistant the players love but don't respect. Program eroding one day at a time he is there.
