2019 Carol City corner Jarvis Brownlee decommitted from the Canes this morning.

The 5-10, 170-pounder is currently a 3-star in the national rankings. According to the 247Sports Composite, Brownlee is the #533 player nationally, #54 CB in the country, and the #67 player in the Sunshine State. His decommitment moves Miami’s 2019 class ranking down to #32 on 247Sports and #38 on Rivals.

The Background

Brownlee landed a Miami offer back in early June and wasted little time accepting it, committing to Miami while on a visit to Coral Gables with his family days later. Brownlee had only minor offers back then and UM was the first to get on the rising corner from Carol City. It wasn’t long, though, until schools like Florida, FSU, UCF, and LSU began to take notice of Brownlee, and all of them had been pushing to flip him from the Canes. Still, up until about a week ago, Brownlee maintained his commitment to UM. However, CIS reported late last week that Brownlee was in fact leaning towards leaving the class, and when he cancelled his Miami official visit on Tuesday to go to FSU instead this weekend, that was all but assured. Brownlee’s decommitment had nothing to do with Manny Diaz leaving and any suggestion of that is just plain off-base.

Future of the Class

Brownlee's decommitment brings the total class numbers down to 13, and leaves Miami with one corner commit in Chaminade-Madonna 4-star Te'Cory Couch. Couch is locked into his Miami commitment and is a true Cane. UM has recruited all along like they wanted three corners in this class, so they are likely looking for two spots to fill here.

The top target all along here has been Palm Beach Central 5-star Akeem Dent. I’ve not seen a great chance here for the former Miami commit most of the cycle, but rumors have circulated that Alabama might not have room for Dent. If that’s the case, then Miami’s chances to flip the current FSU commit go way up, as Dent is planning on taking a UM official visit next month and won’t sign early. Clemson has also started to get involved here and could become some serious competition.

The Benjamin School 4-star Kaiir Elam sits just behind Dent on the board as an elite corner prospect and officially visited Miami last weekend. I’m told Miami made a move with Elam, but that it’s too early to say how good of a spot Miami actually is in here. Since Elam isn’t signing until February, he’ll have time to come down from his visit high, but Elam will also have more time to build a relationship with the UM staff, something that suffered when Miami dropped contact for all of summer and part of the fall. From a source close to the recruitment, the long-term efforts of both the Gators and UGA have them in the lead here.

Another official visitor last weekend was Chamberlain 3-star John Dixon. I’m hearing overly positive chatter behind the scenes that Miami can end up landing Dixon and I think the Canes are in a much better spot with Dixon than Elam right now. Dixon is also signing early, so not as much time will pass off his visit high. Like many others, getting over the fact that UM ignored him for most of the cycle will be the big hurdle here. Miami has certainly put themselves in a favorable spot as Dixon goes into his WVU official this weekend.

We go 2/3 here and I’m thrilled. But we can very well go 0/3. Gotta expand the board here ASAP.

Still have no idea why the coaches ignore these kids (especially one like Elam!!!) for so long. It's so dumb.

Who the **** is in charge of recruiting for us? Because whoever the **** it is is an idiot. Sorry, but it's the **** truth.

Who the **** is deciding who to offer and focus on? Not recruiting Elam? Not offering Taisun? Completely ignoring entire position without keeping any ******* recruiting backup options as a JUST IN CASE? Not understanding who the **** we have no shot at all with like Akeem Dent....

Bunch of idiots man

The staff goes about recruiting so backwards. Offer 20 different cbs if you have to abd pursue 10 of them throughout and if they did Dixon and Elam mah have been ours already with Dent as icing on the cake

Mork is used to not needing backup plans because he used to just tell the boosters who he wanted and they did the rest. He is having a lot of trouble figuring out how to recruit without bags.

Stop ******* around and get Dixon on board. If elam and dent want in you accept their commitment. And get Emerson on Boatd quick regardless of what’s going on with tyrique.

And a grad transfer at linebacker might be something to look at if our guys go pro. What say you guys?
