So your point? We shouldn't want the coach fired?Clappy, like Butch, is an example of how the "fire the coach" mob mentality doesn't necessarily lead to better things. 2000-2004 was a pretty good run, but we wanted those guys fired and ended up with 6-7.

Who said it "necessarily" leads to better things? Are you trying to say Coker shouldn't have been fired because we might not have gotten the right replacement?

I'm saying that things could always be worse. We're living with that reality right now. Things are worse today than they ever were under Larry Coker. The Butch Davis example is even more glaring. Everyone wanted Butch fired, but now everyone wants Butch to come back and do what he did when everyone wanted him fired.
Queenie, let's stop saying that EVERYONE wanted Butch fired. I, for one, still supported him even after the Syracuse/McNabb debacle. The assemblage of talent was becoming obvious. UCLA showed our potential.
By the way, I'll freely acknowledge that Butch's game day coaching was poor. He'll need a good OC when he returns to the Canes.

Of course. Now we can't find anyone who wanted him fired. No one takes credit for the banner, and everyone knew all along that he was dealing with sanctions and was building a monster.

While I would be happy to see Coker win - hiring him as the HC is one of the reasons we are a below average team today (Al being the biggest reason)
- In 2000 any idiot AD could see we were on the verge of greatness and had a massive brand that needed to be built on
- And we hired a guy with little to no head coaching experience, had very little personality, wasnt known as a great game day coach and an average recruiter at best
All of our problems started with this hire...... Yes Randy and Al didnt change the direction of the program but the downward slide was when Coker was made HC

Howard said firing Clappy was a mistake and in hindsight keeping Clappy at least another year would have been better than making the wrong hire in Shammon. Clappy, Shammon, and Golden, wow.
Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity is the one who flew the banner. Those dorks didn't represent the entire Canes fan base.
There were plenty of fans, including myself, who weren't clammoring for firing Butch. I had 100% confidence that with the talent Davis was accumulating, it was only a matter of time before we returned to the top 10. Lot of fans were disappointed in some of the losses in the late 90s, it was nothing like the ***** storm we're seeing nowadays. And there was always a light in the tunnel during Butch's reign because player development actually existed back then.
