CJ Bailey needs to come home

Here’s the deal on Bailey, he has a weak arm, and he struggles in reading defenses and against pressure. Those are facts. He has a long way to go. If he’s our quarterback next year, I’m not happy. Not saying he can’t take a big leap, but it would have to be a huge leap.
Hes not the best option available but id be more then fine with him personally, I like his potential & Overall skillset. Hopefully we make the right choice

Beck almost cost us a spot in the playoff during that 3 week stretch thank god he got it together, the Main reason i like Bailey & Leavitt over guys like Raiola is from watching Beck run with all his might only to gain three yards

Novosad just entered portal. And I'd be surprised if Moore doesn't declare. Doubt Akili Smith is gunna be given the keys.

Sorby imo should be Oregons #1 target. After that I could see them going for Leavitt. It'd be hilarious if Oregon went for Bailey. He actually lowkey feels like a fit for what theyd like.
As in the Bengals QB?

We absolutely were interested in Maiava. He was their backup to Beck anc they'd have taken him if he said yes after Beck declared.

Miami was all-in on Ward, but they were open before Beck said yes.

I expect a similar story this year.
Maiava would have been a god send. He's an NFL player.

At one time people close to Maiava thought he’d enter and Miami was likely. There’s still big names out there at could still enter that would catch some off guard.

Assuming Sorsby is a lock for TTU/NFL, I have Hoover/Leavitt/Raiola in my first tier. Sounds like we are convinced Hoover is going to IU, so I guess he's out.

I would take Bailey over Mestemaker. They are both potentially 2 yr guys, but Mestemaker is risky af (with craaaaazy upside potential, tbf). Mestemaker hasn't thrown a pass against a P4 team, and threw 6 INTs against the 2 best G5 teams he played against. No one knows whether Mestemaker is a starting P4 QB. Mensah had games against Kansas State and Oklahoma last year before he portalled; Mestemaker didn't have any P4 tests.

Fwiw, my dream scenario is that Freeman takes an NFL job, DeBoer goes to ND, and we get Ty Simpson in the portal, but I don't know if that's gonna be possible with the calendar.
I dont think anyone is a lock anywhere. Until they sign/enroll, everybody is a free agent.

So you think he's a project , just less of a project then the guys on our roster who we haven't coached up so therefore you beleive Bailey wont get much better here based off that, got it.
I happen to beleive that aside from Coleman our QB evals have been bad & Bailey posses more natural talent then all of them but thats just my opinion.
Yes to the first sentence. No one said he won't get better; it's just not what is needed here NOW. We need a guy who can come in as more of a finished product.

I think the staff is looking for someone more finished and with more experience and If all else fails, it sure seems like we are being set up to accept Bailey. I could be totally wrong ......

I feel like “processing capabilities” is what is being overlooked in the QB discussion on here. That’s huge.

Naah. It's being overplayed,....unless you or others have some LEGIT tape or feedback that shows this young kid cannot process or continue improving on it.

Would sure love to see substance to go with this old cliche.

If people really knew how many kids actually entered the portal with a set destination that never saw said destination lol. Money changes things. You enter thinking this 6 wants you then after you enter a 9 shows up at your door.

Finished product as in games played (didnt someone say the kid has 20 starts under his belt?) or abilities shown (wouldnt they be declaring for the NFL draft if so) ??

Help us understand. Which 2 guys you got that will be better fits and available?

The jargon I'd been finding late in the season (Nov 11th, b4 playing us):

"A twitchy thrower of the football with long limbs, Bailey can push the ball downfield with ease and according to Pro Football Focus, he has completed 21-of-42 deep shot attempts for 762 yards with eight touchdowns against one interception. That's an impressive 18.1 yards per attempt on deep shots, which is fifth best amongst the 53 Power Four quarterbacks with at least 30 deep shot attempts"

"When Bailey is operating in a clean pocket, he has completed 76% of his passes for 1,866 yards with 14 touchdowns against zero interceptions. Bailey has been kept clean on 70.5 percent of his drop backs.

When he is under pressure, Bailey has completed 52.9% of his attempts for 545 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions."

Opposing Quarterback Spotlight: NC State's CJ Bailey the best signal caller Miami has faced this season

Where the room for growth is, just looking at those non-complete numbers, is pretty obvious. If he can process while having protection, I'd love to know why he can't get better with the picks and efficiency while under pressure this offseason?

My comment about processing capabilities wasn’t necessarily specific to Bailey. My point was that it needs to be a major point of emphasis with any QB eval no matter who is under consideration. Think about Beck in the Louisville game.

Beck's processing ability has been widely regarded as high. It's been other things for him, IMO.

Some things become a little circular, as these aren't HSers we're discussing here where there's a vast area of room for doubt. This kid's ability to process is supposedly ok but the room for growth on getting some balls out there faster and handling pressure better is there.

Two of the more interesting dominoes will be once Oregon and bama exit the playoffs. What Ty and Dante decide will impact a lot.

Are you purposely trying to play the Hater Clown role in this thread?

Beck had one ****** performance where LVille made three ridiculous INTs out of the 4 and the other one was a 4th down just chuck it up.

Talk up Bailey all you want but STFU with the Beck slander in every post.

I'd actually like to know who Aaron Murray thinks would be the best fit for Miami.

He has watched and broken down all of our games and knows what fits Dawson.
