CJ Bailey needs to come home

The one thing that does concern me about Bailey is his arm does not have a lot of juice. His deep throws take forever and a day to reach their WRs. I'm fine with taking Bailey but I think that we should check in on a few other options first like Leavitt, Sorsby and Raiola. I see people comparing him to Mendoza and honestly they are not alike at all. Mendoza had a much stronger arm and was able to make all the throws.

Bailey had numbers very similar to Beck this year. Slightly lower completion percentage. With much worse protection and talent around him.he’s also much faster than Beck. Which would have made a difference on some crucial plays this year. I think it could be an upgrade, worst case, very similar production as Beck had this year.

When we beat OSU, and then this guy goes in the portal.. how do you not get Smith to enter the portal with him and possibly be the first (maybe, IDK?) player to win a natty with 2 teams in the CFP era!? Plus he’d be playing with guys from his childhood. I know he hurt yall many times over but I also know all would be forgotten if he portaled here 😂

I like that hook of being first player to win CFP with 2 different teams. I think my question would be is what got JS to OSU - Hartline or Day/OSU? If it was primarily Hartline’s track record, would there be crack in the door?

I don’t think he goes anywhere, but like I said, that hook/honor would be pretty cool to have forever.

JKS would be amazing and it could happen despite him recommitting to Tosh. He’s under paid by a mile and will be. Parents need to learn his worth and someone needs to go to Hawaii to make it happen. That is the issue. One of my son’s coaches is related to the family and close.

JKS by a mile but I’ve been clear for months I didn’t see him leaving. I also like Mestemaker in this offense. Railoa, Leavit , Bect and Bailey all in the tier I’d be ok with. All these guys have flaws but I think we can win with them.
Jks is pretty **** inconsistent ngl. He flashes but he struggled with layering his throws in the bowl games

You liked Mateer last cycle. What if he becomes available again? I have to believe his draft stock hasn't improved given his performance at OU.

I still like Mateer he just tried to get back too fast with the injury . He wasn’t the same guy as previous year after the hand issue . That said I would rather have more of a pure passer. A better fit for this offense. I’d actually take Bailey over him this go round. Mateer at a place like Ohio State would be crazy.

What if this season makes his nil very reasonable though?

Ultimately that may be what our decision comes down to.. if one guy is asking $4M and the other will accept $3M and both are “acceptable” takes cause they have their upside but also weaknesses…

Like I’d imagine if we did it based on tiers Sorsby would be the clear guy in tier 1 because he has the arm he is very mobile and he significantly limits his negative plays while still delivering a decent amount of big plays… that probably has the most value in coaches minds. So he’s probably the guy that is easily gunna get >$4M.

From there I’d say Mestemaker is next for what I’d pay probably above $3M but doesn’t have the P4 proven experience. But actually 2nd highest price in portal will probably go to Leavitt. Personally I’d pas on him. He’s also coming off injury and made a CFP though. I think you can get much better value. Raiola hasn’t actually had a good season and is coming off injury. I actually don’t think his market is probably even much better than Lagway tbh. Ultimately both have a lot of talent. But at least Lagway can run I guess.. Lagway had more turnovers though…. I think both arnt making more than like $3M…

Mestemaker is my number 2 to Jks.
