Anyways as for the purpose of this thread... Why don't yall rank the potential portal additions you'd like?
For me it may depend on how this season finishes and what the outlook of next years team is. If next year we feel we're absolutely a natty team, I think we gotta just go with the more proven Qb rather than maybe a slightly higher risk guy. BUT a guy that would be here 2 years also gets a bit of a premium as well... Anyways out of guys I view as realistic targets (dont think Riaola is realistic), I'd probably go:
1 Yr Option guys:
1. Brendan Sorsby - Dude has been great this year. I think this dude has incredibly high floor and a good ceiling as well. I'm not sure he'd have the Ward or even Beck draft potential, but this dude seems like an absolute baller to me. Dude has an absolutely elite P2S ratio of 2.2%!! this season. No way that's sustainable, but career he's sub 15%. And when we discussed Sorsby this past offseason as a portal target my #1 issue was his big time throw : Turnover worhty play rate. 23+24 at Cinci he had 19 BTT:21 TWP on over 600 dropbacks. This year so far he has 11:3 on 173. Though I will say he didn't have a very good game against Nebraska. This would imo be the most realistic high end safe option. Plus I think this is a guy you 1000% can lure into the portal and to Miami. So it kinda has everything going for it. .
2. Demond Williams - definitely a tougher target in the portal than Sorsby imo. Like Not sure he's leave Washington and his current offense for here, especially since he followed Fisch to UW from UCLA. But I'd take him. In his 360+ dropbacks, he only has 3 TWP (2 INTs). But he was shut down by Ohio st. I think it's important for him to show this level of play for the whole season. But as of now he's be my #2 option
3. Darian Mensah - Dude has objectively had a great year. He was viewed quite highly last season as an up and coming portal guy, but he committed so **** early. Manny really got a W there for getting on this dude with the quickness. But he's been a good passer this year and has improved quite a bit over last season. Technically he'd have 2 years available too I believe, though I think it's doubtful he'd use them both.
T4. Rocco Becht, Sam Leavitt, DJ Lagway, LaNorris Sellers. To various degrees I don't feel these guys actually fit our offense nearly as well as the 3 above them. Like Leavitt and Sellers are run heavy/scramble guys that will run. Whereas scamble and ability to create, I think a guy like Cam is more what we want where he's looking to throw.
5. Josh Hoover. He's slipped a little for me, because although he's a great fit, He's had a lot of turnover issues, and I'm pretty sure he's just staying at TCU or going to the draft. ....
2 YEAR OPTION Guys:
T1. Malik Washington - Dude is having the best freshman QB season in the country through 6 games imo. Maryland is kinda having crazy freshman production right now. Dude is 6'5 230lbs and so far this year has 10 TDs : 2 INTs. He has a 5.6% P2S%. His WRs have an 11% Drop%. He has quite a fast Time to Throw especially for a freshman. I mean we will see what he does by the end of the year, but as of now, I'd probably lean him as #1...
T1. Jaron-keawe Sagapolutele - Dude started off strong as ****. But the past few games he's been a turnover machine. The thing is he's at Cal and how much can you really put on him. He's doing too much and it's leading to very bad decision making. And that is one thing next year we absolutely can NOT have. A guy that is good at not turning the ball over is the most critical aspect of Qb play there is, and his last 3 games he's had 7%, 5%, 7% TWP%. BUT he's pushing the ball downfield. he's shown great accuracy. He's getting the ball out quick... he's clearly got the talent. And 2 years of guaranteed eligibility.
3. Drew Mestemaker - I'm very high on this dude as a home run swing. He's got the arm, the size, the movement ability. He's coached by Eric Morris. I am hesitant mostly due to his absolutely lack of HS output and just overall lack of experience. He's only had like 275 Dropbacks in College and like 30 pass attemps in HS which is insane. But This is a very good 2 year option guy and Imo the absolute bottom tier of portal addition we should make. There is no excuse imo to at least not get Mestemaker if you don't get any of the guys I mentioned earlier. And honestly by the end of the year, in a FULL combined ranking, I could see myself wanting him over Sellers, Leavitt, Lagway, Becht, and Hoover....
