CJ Bailey needs to come home

Fair points. Problem with it all though is in order to get him back here we would have to promise him a job and give out a big nil. What part of a developmental QB do you give those too especially when you have quality on the bench that you've made promises to themselves. It would be one thing if he was a gaurentee as in a seriously proven QB. He's not that. So why burn the room and potentially your season for that.

He'd deserve a big NIL if he continues to be a highly productive P4 starter. But I agree with you that no one deserves a guaranteed starting role. I don't even know how that would work. If he sucks, you have to bench him. If Emory is better, you have to play Emory. ... Did Beck or Ward require we put down that they start as a required contractual term? Seems crazy to me.

And just to be clear, I'm not clamoring to sign him up as Beck's replacement. He's a far cry from Ward and Beck right now. I'm saying it's good we have him as an option along with Mendoza and others, and if he does keep improving and lights it up this season, we should pay him what he deserves to transfer here.

LOL@ Ward or Beck not having starting role Day 1.. :ibis-roflmao-sm3: Ward had #1 jersey bought from Mario closet and pretty sure Mario made it clear on radio he was the man before spring.. What are we even talking about here, EVERYONE knows those guys were the man Day 1

Don't think this would be a good idea. We'd have to all but guarantee him QB1 to get him to come here. Nickel and Coleman wouldn't be thrilled. Perhaps that shouldn't be a consideration? Fair enough if that's your opinion.

Bringing in Bailey - a QB who is intriguing but obviously still needs to develop a ton - who is also local legend could go extremely sideways if he didn't play well and the OC (who I doubt will be Dawson) needed to bench him.

Get the Ward/Beck of the next portal class if we don't mind ruffling Nickel & Coleman's feathers for a year. Failing that, I'd prefer we go after an experienced guy (Merz type best example I can think of) or a former highly touted QB without much experience but with multiple years from one of the big programs (should be a ton of them available) to compete with what we have in the room.

So not worthy of a job and NIL deal? Wut?
Last year, there were three quarterbacks I pushed for: John Mateer, Fernando Mendoza and Carson Beck.

Everybody was pretty unanimous on Mateer. That was an easy one.

When I suggested Mendoza, people said he was another Emory and a token Cuban. Since then, a lot of non-Cubans are projecting him as a high NFL draft pick.

I first mentioned Beck on the show the day he got the brace surgery (and not Tommy John). Most people were disgusted and even laughed sarcastically. Now we’ve seen what he can do.

Let’s see how this conversation looks in a couple months. Bailey still has to play real teams on his schedule and continue his trajectory. But I’ve seen very little actual criticism of his skillset and a lot of instinctive backlash for no reason.
Mendoza putting on a clinic right now for Indiana. Looks like he did vs Guidry last season lol

If we brought Bailey in next year you really think there would be an actual competition between him, Emory, Nickel, and Coleman? You think there was any question Ward and Beck were gonna start?

I'll agree on this, if things keep going the way I'm expecting, we'll have our pick of top guys from the portal. That may or may not be Bailey (and we're only speculate he would even want to portal out)

You misunderstood what I wrote. I said I couldn’t imagine it would be added as a term within their NIL contracts. That’s very different than being told we want you to start.

This guy has made what 7-8 starts so far and most of them came last year when he was forced into action as a true freshman.

If he keeps developing on the clip he has been going he would a great option.

Why do y'all keep doing this? It wasn't Judd or him. They weren't even in the same conversation. Judd was a take simply for numbers purposes and had a minimal nil or a commitment to him. CJ wanted promises made to him and he also wanted a very competitive nil. The Jeremiah line is just as tiresome cause he was committed to nc state all along. Guess where Jeremiah didn't even give a glimpse towards... That would be nc state. Is it only a factor when it relates to us and no one else? Not gonna get back into Jeremiah but this CJ bailey conversation makes little sense. He's not good enough and never has been for his demands. That's all it is. Only way he ever ends up back here is if he drops all his demands and gets realistic.
do not speak logic and common sense to people, they only see it a certain way which helps their fandom.

People always think if we recruit a QB they are going to be great. Sometimes they are just a numbers take and dont play for a reason, and will never start meaningful games unless the qb room gets the injury bug.

Without looking who has Indiana played for Mendoza to be getting “high draft pick” talks…

so CJ is the new Jake Garcia? Everyone loves them on social media till they realize they just a regular player

If that's the argument who has Matteer EVER played for him to get the same comps? I haven't bothered to check on what teams think about Mendoza cause he's not here. BUT when nephew was with him at cal he already had scouts from atleast 4 squads that I know of paying him attention. Possibly thats just due diligence. But my personal opinion Mendoza will definitely be a high draft pick. He checks off all the boxes you want for a QB & he's far more athletic than people realize. I would've loved to see him here this year. But I get it. He wanted to feel like more of a priority. Is what it is.

Mendoza isn't it but that's JMO, only time will tell
I dont understand how you dont see Mendoza as a high pick next season. Have you seen the stats he put up against the powerhouses of Old Dominion, Kennesaw St, and Indiana St.

This is sarcasm by the way for the porsters that dont get it.

By the way Mendoza was one of 2 QBs that lost to FSU last year. Mendoza is a good college QB. Lot of Mel Kipers in here claiming him to be a high draft pick
