Cincinnatus, or Lucious Quintus Cincinnatus, was a military leader and farmer in the early Roman Republic. In those days, Rome was invaded. Cincinnatus took control of the government and the military, and he beat back the invaders…but it’s what happened afterward that made him famous. Upon winning the war, he didn’t stay on as king or emperor…he simply handed control back to the elected Senate, and went back home to work his farm.

Fun fact - George Washington had read about Cincinnatus as a boy, and saw him as a hero. As a man, Washington was also a general, and after beating the British during the Revolutionary War, he too could have made himself king. But like Cincinnatus, after serving as president he simply went back to his farm.

That’s where the name Cincinnati comes from. It’s about virtue, hope, and inspiration.

Too bad the place is a complete dump.
