No one wants to be unappreciated or as "Chump Change". The portal has to be having a negative impact on existing players. especially the QB room. We saw what Emory Williams upside was last summer and then during the season. Kid laid it out for the U so why isn't he in the conversation about 2024 QB? Jaccurri Brown, talk about disrespect, he got it in aces yet is standing up for our bowl game. I hope he plays like a Heisman winner but I'd bet he knows where his bread is buttered and it might not be by the U. Then their is Judd Anderson, a recruiting recruit and potentially Cedric Bailey. Cedric a star in his own right thought to be bait for Jeremiah Smith so I doubt he is interested.
What if Deriq King had not come to the U, would our progression at the U produced a star? Who got shoved aside for King?
I don't like how our own recruited players get ignored plus is the staff developing them whole heartedly or do they prefer a retread player that likely turned them down in the past.
When Craig Erickson was signed his competition was going to simply walk in and take the QB job, Jeff George a legend in his own mind and Craig says bring him on. We have a Craig or a Vinny, or a Walsh that is waiting to be coached as a Hurricane starter, do we have a coach that can meet the challenge or are we looking outside all the time?

I agree that managing the locker room now with the portal generally and our QB room specifically is important. Kids have to understand that the situation is always fluid now.

King was good for the locker room but that's it. Perry was better. The offense also improved when TVD took over.

In the new world of free agency I think the locker room will matter less.

Also, thanks Emory for your service. But you aren't very good. For all I know he can be great. He sacrificed his body and what did he get? We still lost. I don't care if we replace him on the roster. The teammates that do care if he's replaced wont for long. All the best.

Because if he doesn't break his arm, everyone will be able to take off their " he so tough/leadership/gritty" blinders and realize that he missed way to many easy open throws and isn't ready to be starting QB of a team that has asperations of being in the playoff conversation next year.

I get the point - at some point you need to roll with the people you recruited. Otherwise, why should recruits sign on?

That said, Miami's returning quarterbacks in 2020 were:

  • N'kosi Perry (3 years experience, part time starter)
  • Peyton Matocha (1 year experience, backup)
  • Tate Martell
  • Tyler Van Dyke
King was an upgrade over Perry, and if King was portal bound regardless we would have been starting true freshman TVD in 2020.

I like Emory and expect him to eventually start at UM. Nothing and no one will scare him off. Let them battle in the off season.

The big difference back then there was no portal or NIL. If there was the same thing would have happened then. You cannot compare two different era's. $$$$$$$$$ and free agency is a universal language.

Morale values don't change which I think over time will bear itself out. My wife is wonderful in all aspects but one, think I'll find someone to fill that role...really, good luck.

New cleaning lady! Now where did my wife go? THE PORTAL! I'm hungry and this one can't cook but she can scramble for yardage

Forget our roster, look at fsu where they have 5 returning QB's with 2 highly rated 4 stars plus the QB that won out and got them to the Orange Bowl (snicker).

I wonder if AJ Duffy or Brock Glenn are available as fsu keeps digging into the portal...check them out, they certainly are not "CHUMP CHANGE".

Duffy already left didn't he?

The reason you take a portal QB is because you don’t have a good enough quarterback on the roster.

Emory Williams showed a lot of toughness and heart but that’s not going to win many football games when you go 10-30 passing.

A capable and reliable quarterback could have Miami in the playoff hunt next year. You don’t waste chances like that hoping the guy you have on the roster magically improves over the offseason while his arm is broken.
