2024 Chris Cole LB from VA (Rohan's Nephew) [commits to UGA]

Im not losing hope with this at all. Rohan is not his only family in Miami. Almost the entire Marley clan lives in South Florida. I think it will be the kid's decision but they are very family oriented. Also if he is thinking past college even past football days getting close to that won't hurt at all. If D$ has been getting consistently good updates, its coming from Rohan who prolly filters it to Mario. Just my synopsis of it. Like i said, these CB are highly volatile these days. Big whiffs been happening since NIL showed up.

Thats not to say he wont end up at UGA, just that i dont think its a forgone conclusion at all.

I try to be objective on all topics on this board.

I think there’s several things to consider when it comes to last yr and our 5-7 record that needs to be addressed on both ends:

1. Culture: I know those who don’t really roll w/ Mario as HC think this is a buzz word, however if u listen to any coach on any level that’s taking over a new team, that’s one of the first things that’s mentioned. Miami’s #TNM culture was deplorable.

2. Scheme: The scheme didn’t fit the personnel. It was painful to watch

3. Personnel: It was clear some guys on the roster were not Miami material either mentally or physically.

4. The Program: There was a reason why Herbstreit called us out on Nat’l TV. The program have rested on its laurels for yrs now, not completely vested in any of its athletics, particularly football.

HOWEVER, w/ that being said, here’s what works against Mario:

1. Coaching: If u go back & watch those games, Mario as a HC made several rookie mistakes that hurt the team, namely in the TAMU game:
-Bleeding the clock in the 4th when we were down 17-6. We had the first possession in the 4th w/ 14:20 to play. We took **** near 6 minutes to score 3 points to make the game 17-9.
-Our defense holds & we get the ball back w/ a little over 7 mins to play. We then bleed the clock, AGAIN, to 3:20 JUST to give the ball back to TAMU; mind u, we only have 2 T.O’s at this point.
-We kill all of our T.O’s on TAMU’s next possession & get the ball back w/ 0 TO’s and 1:16 on the clock. At this point u would think we would speed up the game; NOPE. Not only r we slow, but in TAMU’s territory w/ 58 secs to play, JK4 is stopped short on 3rd and 10 in bounds, and there’s confusion! No one knew what to do and we bled another 25 secs just to throw an incompletion! Ball game.

That TAMU lost was on coaching, period. TAMU was a depleted team w/ suspensions & key defensive players getting DQ’d for targeting; yet, we were the team that looked disorganized, & Mario looked very uncomfortable in the tight moment.

2. Predecessor: Mark Richt took over the Wefense era, & had to use his own $$ to help push us in to the 21st Century of Athletics. This program was 3 yrs removed from the cloud, & he also took over a program who suffered its most embarrassing home loss in program’s history, while firing its HC mid season. Yet, Richt quickly turned around Miami in 2 short yrs being a shell of himself.

3. Peers: Elko took over a worst program than Mario, yet Mike had Duke, DUKE, immediately as not only a formidable opponent, but a winning team. Here’s what’s even scarier about what Mike did at Duke; not only was he a 1st time HC, but out of Duke’s 4 losses, their avg. margin of defeat was 3.8 points! Then u have a veteran coach in Dykes who takes over a TCU program that went 5-7 the season prior & 23-24 over the last 4 yrs & IMMEDIATELY turns them into a CFP contender.

So to me, I think it’s reasonable to have cautious optimism. Yes, we can say Mario had/have a lot of work to do to change the culture here, but the counter argument will be 5-7 was not necessary b/c there were minor coaching adjustments that could’ve been made to change the outcome.

If u’re going to say, “we need to give him 5 yrs” and use Butch as a guideline, well the problem is apples & oranges. Butch took over a NCAA Scandal team that received **** near the death penalty. With that said, only The 1997 saw the true devastation. He still went 8-3, 9-3, 5-7, 9-3, 9-4, 11-1 w/ one hand tied behind his back. Was it at the Nat’l Championship level the previous coaches created? No, but we were still competitive w/ limited scholarship players. Mario did not walk in to the same situation; further that situation was 25 yrs ago; the game has changed, & no program’s coach need that long to turn around culture, today, & the data proves that.

Let’s see how the season plays out for 2023-24. Let’s see how recruiting plays out for 2023-24. No need to throw dirt on Mario b/c he was successful at UO, but there’s also no need to excuse, rationalize, circumvent 5-7 last yr, either. Nor, can Mario continue to see in every interview what he did at a previous stop. That’s old news & will eventually fall on dead’s ears. I will say this, & I stand by this:

If 2023 is a season in which we find ourselves struggling w/ identity, struggling against inferior opponents, getting blown out, then it’s completely justifiable to start ?ing the complete direction. If we fulfill the “lofty” expectations of winning at least 8 games this season, then we should all feel much better moving fwd.

Huge year for Mario in my eyes and I think most everyone’s here.

I don’t subscribe to the “3-4 years to show improvement”. 3-4 years to become a legit CONTENDER? Sure I can buy that. You need your guys and your scheme implemented. But teams improve with new staffs yearly across the country.

In hindsight last season was a lost cause from the moment Mario’s hiring had finished. I don’t give him a pass but recognize that is the case. But he needs to prove that is not the norm and it was an anomaly he put together such an awful staff.

Otherwise we’re looking at 80mil for a recruiter. His game day is already iffy and if we can’t trust his hiring process we better just hope he loads the roster because we’ll be looking for a replacement.

He can win here as CEO/recruiter despite his iffy game day decisions but he can’t fail at his hires, and he needs to let them do their own thing.

You literally the only person on here i will stop to read an essay for lol. Great post bruh

I appreciate u, & I try not to be so wordy b/c quite frankly my thumbs be hurting. Lol. On some topics though, I feel the need to be thorough b/c I see such polar opposite takes.

There’s a happy median; I don’t think there’s any reason to bury Mario or call for his head after one bad season, yet I don’t think its wise to reason on why 5-7 took place OR remotely hint that winning under 8 games in yr 2 is still apart of the process. I think it’s fair to be optimistic for this season b/c we have a coach who was successful at his previous stop, BUT it’s also prudent to be cautious & allow the season to unfold b4 getting drunk off “Off-Season Orange & Green Kool-Aid.”

Georgia got 3 top 6 LBs last cycle and gon take one of our top targets at lb? Gahdam man lol
They’ve earned it tbh. To me if you have a commitable offer to UGA, Bama, or OSU you take it. Now this kid will be lowest of their priority and he will be a top priority for us but those programs continue to develop and win.

This ^^^^ Don't know what to think but if he really stands ground and doesn't visit UGA this weekend (or before the dead period starts again next week) I'll keep an open mind. This could be UGA trying to drum up some smoke and pressure him into a commitment..

Look mane, I don't know where you think you are. But if you think you can come up in here with a reasonable; well thought out and articulately delivered; factually based post and expect to be taken seriously, then you ain't long for CIS. Either you are a 15-0 slurper or a "blow everything up" mope...no in between. I appreciate the effort, but save it for an insane asylum or psych ward. You'll have better luck!

I found it troubling that Duke was able to do so well with Elko right out of the gate The one thing that I can see that's different is that Cutcliffe wouldn't have allowed the culture problems that we know were in our locker room.

I think there are a lot of moving parts to deal with here to get things back on track. I'm inclined to believe things will be significantly better in 23.

I agree with everything you said.

Except the 8 wins part. 8 wins is a joke still and the only reason it's even plausibly acceptable is because of how bad we were in 2022.

The large majority had us winning 9 or more last year. Pretty much everybody couldn't imagine less that 8 wins.

If we won 8 last year, would anybody be happy with 8 this year?

I still think how we win 8 games matters. We could win 8 and look great (especially on offense) in our losses and blowout some decent teams and I'd feel better than 9 ugly wins and 3 blowout losses.

Basically 8 wins can be a reason for great hope and optimism but could also easily still leave plenty of questions and skepticism.

I hate even typing that as I reflect on the shell of our former selves we've become. When we joined the ACC 10 wins was the floor of expectations. And now 8 is "lofty". Sad stuff

Yeah, if he doesn’t visit there, I’ll feel better about it to a degree. It would be nice to win some of these.
We really need to win battles like these where things are stacked in our favor with the family. Its really hard to beat UGA at any position at this time starting from default. And we need these players to then perform better to then win more battles.

It’s why I had the parentheses around “lofty expectations.” I agree w/ u, w the caliber of coach + roster + schedule 8 wins is a joke, but I’m trying to set the bar low so disappointment doesn’t creep in. I also agree how we look in those 8 games will matter, too, which is y I said trouble finding an identity or struggle against inferior teams.
