Check down on 4th & long

Yea - he lacks an oline and competent coaches.

Give this guy a decent oline and this thread isn't made.

Kayaa is good. But it's concerning when we play scrub secondaries like WSU and he cant put up stupid numbers. Yes he was playing well but he wasn't lighting it up. Yes the oline sucks and coley sucks but brad is making all these play calls at the line so that's on him just as much.

Could it be that Golden/Coley drilled into his head not to turn the ball over? Because all year he has taken underneath stuff on the money downs. It's not excusable by any means on 4th down to throw short of the markers.

Our horrendous O-line play has clearly sped up the internal clock in BK's head. One more year like this and he's going to be twitching like a WW1 soldier with shellshock..

He's getting scrutinized for one play? LOL.

While I do think some type of throw had to be made, what reliable receiver do we have to ensure its completed? Did the OL give Brad an adequate amount of time to throw? Was any freakin' receiver open? We didn't have a Josh Doctson or a Laquan Treadwell on the field. It was most likely going to be a dropped pass, deflection, or pick. Kaaya actually took the smart route and dumped it off to Yearby in hopes that he would get some YAC.

Golden scolded him for that int in the endzone vs Nebraska and it affected our play calling in that area for the rest of the season...

Agreed. If you actually saw the play you'd know that it was abundantly obvious that there was no running room whatsoever for YAC. Kaaya should not have thrown that pass, no way anyone can defend him on that play.

Can't argue there *shrugs* BUT that's just one play and Kaaya is still only a sophomore; Tannehill is a 4 year vet and does it several times in the game. He hasn't even scratched the surface of his potential and I'm pretty sure Richt will be the one to help make it happen.

I hope so but I have my doubts.... thats a mental thing not a physical thing..... You cant be scared to make a mistake

Legit concern. There are things to like about Kaaya. Things to be concerned about. Makes some really nice plays, leaves a bunch on the field.

The boy dont have that "It"

I've been concerned with the kid's mentality since game 1 vs Louisville. I thought his mother was overprotective (red flag #1 ) and way too involved in battles that he should have been fighting without any input from her. The Clemson game really showed that he does not handle pressure/adversity like a champion; He CHOSE not to go back out there battle...

He has the goods physically, but he doesn't tap into the dark side enough for me. Miami requires a Vader-type philosophy of total domination.
I really hope Richt makes it an open competition for QB. The 2 behind him seem to have a little less talent, but a lot more grit.

We will see what Richt does but Kaaya had private coaching in HS and has as many starts as most seniors. Perhaps his ceiling isn't as high as we thought. Hopefully Richt can take him to the next level. This year was only a small step forward for Kaaya.

i don't think its about it. i think coley and golden have this kid scared to take a shot. unless the play calls for it they tell him take no chances check down. u hear it in post games all the time.

we love how he checked down to avoid turnovers. richt as qb coach oc alone should make this kid 100 pct better.

kid played better then stats say. those 3 drops by scott really hurt especially the one in endzone that resulted in int. it doesn't help that since he took over as a starter the mantra has been avoid turnovers check down instead of taking a chance.

under richt the kid will see great improvement just from a playcalling standpoint and coaching standpoint. he will be allowed to be more aggressive and richt likes to take shots. kayaa is great when allowed to do that.

he has things to work on yes but most qb's his age are redshirt freshman not true sophmores with 2 yrs starting.

Brad spent 2 years w a staff that played prevent on the goal line. Let's see what happens when he's taught by more aggressive coaches.

It seems this year with kaays he tried too hard to not make any INTs which is good but at the sametime in situations like that he needs to take a chance and make a play, the great QBs know when its time to take a chance and when not to

Its mental imo, physically the kid can make all the throws it seems like hes too worried on making a mistake instead of just doing it

For the life of me I cant understand what he was doing yesterday. On at least a handful of 3rd or 4th and about 10 yards to go plays he went with the check down. One on of them he literally looked at only one receiver and then went to the check down. It doesnt take an expert to realize that you have a whole lot better chance at converting there by throwing beyond the 1st down marker than by throwing behind the line of scrimmage. Some times you have to force it to make plays, you cant just always take what they are giving you.

I really dont care what the stats say from yesterday, I havent even looked at the box score, but is pretty easy to see that Kayaa was hot crap yesterday after the dropped TD interception.
