For a high four star, this was a quiet recruitment. Didn't seem like anyone was pushing hard for his commitment.

How egregious did it have to be to get kicked off that dumpster fire. Yet another high profile recruit bust at FSU. When you adjust the Norvell's recruiting rankings over the years and remove these 4-5 star busts, those classes are really in the 20s and 30s. Terrible.

He was their only good recruit. He must have done something crazy

Yes, you absolutely need to recruit top talent, but development is so critical. It was the same with Manny. You can’t tell me these coaches who land blue chip talent just happen to miss on 100% of their evaluations and get the busts every year. It’s because they have no clue how to develop them once they’re in the building.

Meanwhile you have some smaller schools consistently over performing with 2 and 3 star guys. They have a ceiling with that talent level but they get the most out of it.

My uninformed hunch from following this for a while is that the real coaches who know stuff and the recruiting sites have very different looking boards. The offers and competition tells you more than the rankings. Bad hot seat coaches grab a few “names” to juice the optics on bad classes but I think we hit on like 10% of those kids when we were shopping in that aisle in our down years.

Our down years classes were a whiff better than Norvells been pulling off in the aggregate.
