He was the Republican governor of Massachusetts.

Very interesting pick - he can't be worse than Emmert.

Denzel Washington Reaction GIF

He went to Harvard and Northwestern (graduate degree)....good thing it's not an SEC school.

I met him when I worked in the healthcare sector in MA and he was the President of Harvard Pilgrim HMO. He is one of the smartest, competent persons I have ever met in my life. Those qualifications seem to conflict with NCAA job description I think he played basketball at Harvard. He is about 6'5 -6'7
Prerequisite of leading a sports organization, atleast 6’ check. Hope that competent translates into NCAA, we need it.

The NCAA had to resort to not letting or severely limiting Emmert having open press conferences. The man was a PR nightmare and basically became a punching bag shield for the real power brokers (P5 commissioners).

Baker doesnt seem like he would be the type to roll over for Sankey or Warren. But who knows

Baker was one of the last solid politicians we had in America

When I worked for the Democrats back in 2013 they had asked me to follow Baker around with a video camera with the hope that he'd say something that could be used against him. I questioned the morality of doing so because Baker is legitimately as moderate as it gets, but was met with blank stares. I resigned shortly after.

Bottom line is he's a good dude, doesn't have any ties to the SEC and will likely bring some sanity and fairness to the NCAA.

Will be an upgrade to Emmert for sure. Will be nice to have a guy who doesn't guzzle the balls of the SEC running the show. As a MA resident, he was as well liked of a politician as you're going to find.

he wasn't gonna get the nomination/ or was gonna be very contested.
Correct. Its really astounding that he was able to last as long as he did given his status as a "republican" here in MA. We Bostonians are determined to follow in the fabled footsteps of progressive cities like San Franscisco, Chicago and NYC

I was in Target (South Bay) last Saturday and I saw two different scumbags filling up multiple backpacks with everything they could get their hands on, neither Target employees nor the security guards they have walking around cared to do anything about it because the city won't prosecute these people. Meanwhile, I'm dropping $200 on 6 bags of groceries due to inflation and target pricing in the cost of the stolen goods. SMH

Charlie Baker was the perfect mix for a repub in MA, leftish indentity but GOP finance (atleast from what i can tell) but i dont want to derail with the politic side. Hope he can fix the NCAA issues, especially to divisions and rivarly issues, and keep the sport more collegiate and less professional.

NCAA hopefully is going the way of the dinosaur!. Charley Baker a politician i do not see as a good sign as most schools are looking for federal help to solve/ curtail NIL spending.let the power 5 group the over football and Bball and let NCAA run tennis, track & field etc.....
