What's good Fam? Now I KNOW we're all disappointed to say the least when it comes to last nights game. Being a Canes fan here currently in the Midwest(By way of Miramar), it was particularly hard because I grab all day about "Florida Football" being better than any place in the country. I didn't like the match up last night because we aren't near where we need to be in order to be playing SEC teams like LSU when we can't even compete with an SEC caliber team within our own conference such as Clemson. I thought we'd probably lose. To get drug up and down the field the way we did? That was surprising me to as well too. So I'm a "solutions guy" or I attempt to take data and begin to form work around's. This is in part of my profession. A couple things I saw last night and a couple observations we can attempt to correct them.
Our offensive line has been pretty bad for the better part of what 3-4 year now right? Last night what I saw was actual hope. You have to remind yourself that the LSU line were some dogs and the best the newbies will probably face outside of Clemson. They didn't do all that bad. It was plenty of time QB1 had some time. True, there run blocking in the middle was suspect, but overall I think we're actually trending in the right direction. Which brings me to my next thing...
Its time for Malik Rosier to go. Rosier is a stay over from the Golden days and it shows. He has absolutely no business being recruited to play football at the U or for any D1 program for that matter. There is no reason for him to be playing anymore. If he does, we're going to start scaring off recruits if he haven't already. There is no reason for him to play. "IF" and this a big IF, we come to a consensus that this is a wash year, we need to start getting the recruits ready with game action. I personally think Jarren should be playing more with Perry backing up. CMR saying the don't know what to do is not an excuse anymore because Rosier doesn't know what to do on most plays. They need the live action Which brings me to my next..
This isn't 1955, 1985 or 2005. Its 2018. CMR needs to hire a QB/OC for two reasons. The first is if the QB's are progressing then that falls on the QB coach. In the three years you been there you mean to tell me you haven't been able to recruit and mold a decent QB? Nah man, that's not going to cut it. I know Jon is his son, but he's not very good at his job which we were reminded of with the Johnson Jr. debacle. Baby Richt can move to some type of analyst role or something if he still wants to keep him but he can't be the QB coach with the product he's put on the field the last couple years. Also, Richt cannot call plays. His play calling is horrid, unimaginative, redundant and just pure lazy. We don't have the dogs yet to play head up like and if we do, because the play calling is so limited, we wouldn't know. So Thomas Brown can stay the RB coach but he and Richt need not be OC's. I would look at Tim Cramsey of Marshall, Rhett Lashlee of SMU and I'm particularly high on Brian Lindgren of CU. I mean very very very high on him. I think Brian would be a **** of a get from a OC/QB standpoint. With him developing Perry or Jarren and the weapons? Forget about it.
Now I've been seeing that people aren't high on Manny Diaz. Hmmm I hope we aren't being prisoners of the moment on this one. We didn't have an issue last year when Miami was turnover chain happy. I think if we can't get a sure fire upgrade for Manny like a Brent Venables, then we should worry about that later on down the line. I do think so of Manny's defensive philosophies need to be tweaked like his over aggressive attach style. That leaves us open at the second level if we don't hit the mark on the point of attack and we saw that often with LSU. Also, I would run a 4-4 defensive but that's me.
So that was basically "it" as far as the "big things" go. I know it was ugly but it was the first game against a team that was better schematically, but I think we'll be ok AS long as we make some changes during and after this season. I'd rather go 9-4 this season with us giving the new QB's and offensive schemes some time to work themselves out then go 11-1 with Rosier giving us a fall sense of security for the future. Remember it took Dabo 8-9 years to get Clemson to where they are now. We're in year 3, its gonna take time.
Its all about the U
