Chances to win the ACC / Make Playoffs, etc.

VT is always a tough out. Playoff game for our guys. I expect they will be ready. Get the W

No offense, 538 math models when it comes to sports handicapping are awful.

More accurate prediction would be UM has implied odds of about 3.23% chance to win the National Championship. Clemson has implied odds of about 9.85% chance to win.

These next odds aren't as accurate but Clemson has implied odds of about 22.5% chance to make playoffs. UM has implied odds of about 19.46% chance to make playoffs.

Take it up with Porter, not me. The more important point is the fact that we're even talking about this. Thanks, Rick.

Beat UNC and VT and the ACC coastal is basically ours. GT has to play a healed up Clemson team and still have to plat VT. UVA has GT, VT, and Louisville left so it likely they lose 2 more ACC games. 5 ACC wins usually clinches it in the coastal.

I looked up past coastal division champs a week ago. Every team that finishes 7-1 or better in the coastal has won the division. No exceptions, no ties. What that implies is that even if we lose to VT, we'd still end up as coastal champs if we win the other remaining acc games and finish 7-1. This also implies that VT will stumble late in the season, probably in a road game since they generally suck on the road.
But Im not sure about VT choking, esp with Fuentes who I believe is no joke as a coach.

Beating Virgin Tech basically ensures that we will be propelled into the ACC championship game as long as we take care of business down the stretch — e.g. Pitt and Virginia. Playoff consideration will come down to the Notre Lame game, especially if they beat NC. State this weekend.

I mean... aren't you just saying "We'll make the ACC championship if we win the remaining ACC games"? And "we make the playoff if we also beat the tough non-conference opponent we're scheduled to face, especially if they remain highly ranked"?

No offense, but I'm not sure what you're adding here that's not already obvious.

This analysis is correct but, mathematically, if UVA wins out, they win the Coastal.

We are the one team in the ACC that is in the playoffs right now. Win and advance. Clemson and NCS have at least one loss and not guaranteed a playoff spot. We win, we're in. I like those chances.

Going to be interesting to see how VT does against Duke. Most interesting.

VT's defense is always good, but they really haven't seen an offense like ours with speed that hopefully Richt will take advantage of.

And their offense hasn't seen anything like our defense. Sorry, but they haven't.

I think we're looking pretty good against VT, although it will be fought out over the full 60 minutes.

You do realize we play UVA right? If UVA wins out, they will have beaten us. If we win out, UVA can't win out, & we win the coastal (mathematics aside).

Our Offense isn’t exactly lighting the scoreboard on fire. Our Defense needs to win us this game and pray we can score 24+ against them.

Clemson......

Although I think our offense is much better especially in the passing game

Just got to convert for more tds than field goals in the redzone. We move the ball well until the redzone. Partly due to playcalling and the other on personally mishaps. If we fix that our offense would be rolling. There are #20 in the country in ypg though

True, we haven't been lighting up the scoreboard - but we also got off to a really crappy start. In the interim, Richt discovered that if we're getting blitzed effectively - to put five receivers out with an empty backfield.

I also note more and more an attempt to get more quick, short passes and let the receivers do their thing making the first man miss.

We don't have the depth, but we have the weapons - and I think we adjust pretty well - thus my hope.

There is no good reason we shouldn't beat VT on our home field for our chance to finally make it to the ACC championship game. We have more talent overall and I can't think of a position where I'd trade one of our players for one of theirs. If we don't win, it will be because we were outcoached. Not as worried about that as I was in past years, but really hoping Richt irons out the issues with play calling and we have a good showing in stopping the run against UNC.

Agreed! All of the cards are stacked in our favor for a victory against VT. VT is not a fancy team. They just line up and pound it down your throat. If we can stack the box, stop the run and force them to throw it we should be fine.

More importantly, we need to put points on the board. Too many good scoring opps are being wasted, and I hate our 3rd down conversion ratio.

I hate to be so soft-shouldered, but does anyone have a good feeling about the VT? Never seems to go well for us lately against them.

Bud Foster's D will bring it, but we are due to play a full 60 minutes. I also think the magnitude of the game, plus the fact that it should be a sellout and great atmosphere, propels us to victory.

I actually think we make a huge statement in that game we are due for one
