Championship talent

This team has an RB who is a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Award (one of 15 on the list for best player in the country) and a semifinalist for the Doak Walker award (best RB in the country), a TE that is a finalist for the Mackey Award, an LB that is a finalist for the Butkus Award and even a punter who is a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award.

We're a 6-5 team that has 4 guys that are either semifinalists or finalists for being the best in the country as the best at their position. That alone is an indictment of this staff, even without taking into consideration the QB who is one of the best in the conference, the WR that was leading the nation in YPC and the LT that is projected as a first round pick.

These are either statistics (for Kaaya and Dorsett) or statistics-driven (for the awards and the draft projections), yet the sum of all of this actual performance is much less than the parts.

Having 4 finalists but going 6-5 could suggest lack of depth overall and lack of talent at other positions. Also, offense is more talented than the defense especially at the line. Surely, coaching is playing a part as well.

Don't forget we lead the nation in pillars

Development of talent is also a problem. Without depth you have to play players that are talented but not ready to perform and make mistakes. I am certain that this is a major factor for the record , even though we may have apparent talent, albeit raw, at certain positions. Kayaa is a prime example. Talented but should have been redshirted.

If we lack depth in year 4, whose fault is that? If our upperclassmen that are here are not good enough and haven't been developed enough so that they're getting passed up by freshmen, whose fault is that? If the defensive line isn't good enough in year 4, whose fault is that? And even if we concede that we don't have the talent and depth to beat elite teams, it is absurd to suggest we don't have the talent and depth to beat teams like GT, Louisville and UVA, teams that we routinely beat out for top level talent.

Let's also be clear about playing Kaaya this year and the impact on our record: we were going to start a 5th year senior QB who hasn't started a game in 3 years, who has barely played in a few years, who was lightly recruited and was far from a sure thing. What game would he have won us this year that we lost? Kaaya may be raw, but he's the highest rated passer in the ACC. We are 6-5 and losing to middle of the road ACC teams because our coaches cannot get maximize the talent on our team and put our guys in the best position to win. The national awards our players are up for provide clear evidence that we have elite level talent at multiple positions, more than many teams in the country can say, and certainly more than Louisville, Nebraska, GT and UVA can say.

In year 1 this would be a good post. In year 4, you made the bed you're laying in.

We do not have championship level talent. However, we should have been a at least a 9 win team. Considering how trash VT and UNC were as well as how Louisville lacked all their offensive weapons. This team should have won more games. Even Nebraska wasn't all that. Their defense was quite suspect(400+ to Wisky). We're talented but we lack so many things to becoming a championship team. Its funny , we talked about an entitlement issue regarding the previous staff but that seems apparant now. What coach and player comes out talking about championship level after losing 5 games? What coach boasts about turning the corner after dropping 3 games? We see it in our play.

Our players are so caught up in smack talking and show boating that they lose sight of what matters... Winning... Perfect example is FSU... All the trash talking and "selling out" meant nothing once we blew that lead. We were still trying to show boat after losing the lead. How about against UVA? I understand Carter was excited about his first pic, but you just gave up a 1 hand diving td. We can excessively celebrate right now.

We have coastal championship talent at the VERY least. ACC IMO

Winning the Costal would have made the fan base happy and see light at the end of the tunnel. All the fans see is a dark bottomless pit.

I agree. We were better than every team in our division since 2011. To be fair since 2010. This is the worse VT team since I can remember, UNC defense is pre-Butch, GT is improving (scary) but they arent better than us, UVA has a stellar defense but a putrid offense(some how scored on us), and Duke still lacks athletes and Boone may have been the worst qb they have had since Thad Lewis.

We should have won the division. That being said, don't talk about championships after losing 5 games. The arrogance of this program right now. We don't have championship talent. That is delusional. The players need to work harder as a group and the coaches need to coach better. What coach tells a team with 5 losses, they have championship talent? Maybe 1 or 2 losses but not 5...

Yeah like I'd listen to anything Kirby had to say. Guy is fuggen jag. Tell Kirby to go learn how to form tackle like DP before he starts regurgitating what fuggen Jag *** corches are predicting. I fuggen despise Rafael Kirby...Its going to be a long year next year watching this guy suit up and play for this jagg *** corching staph

Maybe roll one up. Sit the next couple plays out. Decompress a little bit.

The ones who keep making excuses about depth. Stop it!!!!?? GT and Duke wish they had our backups. Just stop embarrassing yourselves
