I can see if they guy was closer to the white line but **** he was back far enough from the sideline, seemed the ref was to far back, running watching the play. I see what you’re saying but I still wouldn’t have called it, just my opinion.

I’m pretty sure technically he was still in the zone that They’re supposed to be back from and the ref has the right of way so to speak

Either way, nothing came of the penalty so it’s moot point

The ball wasn't near them. The ref was trying to get in position to see the OU WR and Bama Corner running down the sideline IIRC.

Its a tough spot for the sideline officials, its actually pretty **** dangerous. Every team understands when the ball is live don't be in the white box, they know the penalty.
