CFP Committee Rigging the System Almost Complete

With this comment, Mack Rhoades inadvertently explains how they have rigged the CFP for the SEC. “Strength of outta conference schedule” but then they allot 6 CFP slots to the SEC and also starting next year, they are making it mandatory that teams play 9 in conference games.

They have created a closed loop. They weigh SEC games more heavily than other conferences. SEC has no incentive to accept tough out of conference opponent. Teams out of the SEC conference lose the "strength of outta conference schedule" argument. There will be SEC teams with 3 or 4 losses getting in ahead of 1 or 2 loss ACC/Big12 schools.

Do the ACC and Big 12 even have living, breathing commissioners at this point?

it doesnt even matter if we had commissioners in the b12 and acc to step up. SEC and b10 could just say theyre doing their own playoff and itll take away the large portion of the tv money/viewership/ratings with them.

you either get into one of the big 2 or just go unbeaten

I absolutely hate saying this but FSU beat Bama. So that statement of his is already wrong.

Miami also happened to beat the same Florida team that beat Texas and Texas is ranked ahead of Miami.

It. makes. zero. sense. bring. back. the. computers.

i think they set miami up to get in if we win out, which is fair. i think 15 is appropriate for us right now.

not worried about texas or OU bc both will be losing games (Texas has UGA and ATM and OU has Bama still).

same with vanderbilt (tenn).

UGA isnt even a lock to finish with 1 loss either.

if we go 10-2, well be in with an at large bid and well be in comfortably imo. them moving us up to 15 after another lackluster first half just shows itching to get us in.

It seems like I have to repeat this once a week, but we have historically been OVER-ranked by human beings. They want us in the playoffs. They want us in the ACCCG.

The Big XII commissioner knows his conference's place in the pecking order — firmly behind the SEC and B1G. Wiser to stay in your lane and accept scraps than fight battles you have zero chance of winning

The ACC is dead man walking. Just a matter of when.

Look at the bright side, though

When the ACC collapses and the Canes move on up like George and Weezie, the "CFP is rigged against the ACC" rallying cry will go kaput

Strength of OOC schedule...sure...

#3 aTm beat Notre Dame by 1 point (we beat ND by 3), UTSA, Utah State, and with Samford on-deck
#4 Alabama LOST to a terrible F$U team, beat LA-Mo, Wisconsin, and with Eastern Illinois on-deck
#5 UGa beat Marshall, Austin-Peay, and with Charlotte and GaTech on-deck
#7 Ole **** beat Georgia State, Tulane, Washington State, and The Citadel
#10 Texas lost to Ohio Taint, then beat San Jose State, UTEP, and Sam Houston
#11 Oklahoma beat Illinois State, Michigan, Temple, and Kent State
#14 Vandy beat Charleston Southern, VaTech, Georgia State, and Utah State
#23 Tennessee beat Syracuse, ETSU, UAB, and they have New Mexico State on tap

Now, we already know that the P4 teams will disappear from the schedules of SEC teams by next year (with the exception of Big 10 games), so what has the SEC accomplished across their top 8 teams?

One 1-point victory over a still-ranked Notre Dame
One loss to a terrible F$U team (coach may be fired)
One win over a terrible Wisconsin team
One loss to a still-ranked Ohio Taint
One win over a still-ranked Michigan
One win over a terrible VaTech team (coach fired)
One win over a terrible Syracuse team
One unknown outcome vs. GaTech

Across EIGHT teams, there are TWO quality OOC wins (and one more that is still undecided). Miami BY ITSELF has ONE quality OOC win.
Across EIGHT teams, there is ONE quality OOC loss (Taint), and one HORRIBLE OOC loss (FSU).
Across EIGHT teams, there are THREE OOC wins against very bad teams (VaTech, Syracuse, Wisconsin)
And Ole **** still didn't beat anyone good on the OOC slate (and almost lost to Washington State).

Wowwwwww...the CFP is going to continue to pontificate over the SEC having suuuuch a BRAVE slate of OOC games. Sure.

Setting aside Miami, how does the other good ACC teams compare?

#15 Miami beat Notre Dame and Florida (as well as a ranked USF team)
#16 GaTech beat Colorado (game 1 when people thought they were good) and plays UGa
#19 UVa lost to NC State (OOC!!!) and beat Washington State
#20 Louisville will play Kentucky (and played James Madison, who HAS been ranked)
#22 Pitt lost to West Virginia and is about to play Notre Dame
SMU lost to Baylor and TCU

So it's not like the top ACC teams are playing terrible schedules. Two games against ND (including UM's game), three games against SEC teams (including UM's game against UF), and four games against Big 12 teams.

To sum up:

Top EIGHT teams in the SEC played 8 quality OOC games, going 5-2-? (GaTech)
Top SIX teams in the ACC played 10 quality OOC games, going 3-4-? (UGa, Kentucky, ND), and don't forget USF and JMU

But we should listen to what the CFP says, right? Holy crap, the top 8 SEC teams are currently and collectively TWO GAMES better than the top 6 ACC teams when looking at P4 OOC games...this certainly justifies 6 SEC in the Top 12 and 0 ACC teams in the Top 12. Or 5 seeded SEC teams to 1 seeded ACC team.

Yep, quality OOC schedule...

Somebody send this to Who's The Mack Rhoades...

Guess he was still on summer vacation when FSU took down Bama.

We'd be ahead of Utah and Vandy if that were the case. I don't understand why we aren't ahead of both of those teams right now. Vandy already has a thread about them. Utah beat Jeff Sims led ASU and Cincy, while getting blown out by TTU at home.

I do think we will get in if we win out, but they will probably have to leapfrog us over other teams we are currently ranked below. Since the CFP comittee just makes **** up week to week, shouldn't be an issue for them.

The ACC should have no bearing on Miami.

We played USF last year and so did Bama. Miami played a better game than Bama.
We played UF last year and stomped them even though they beat LSU and Ole Miss, lost to Tennessee in OT, and was tied with UGA in the 4th.
We beat Notre Dame this year, that has a comparable performance to measure us against with Texas A&M
We beat UF this year handily, who beat Texas, played UGA to the end, and lost to USF
We beat throttled USF

5 games against UF, Notre Dame, and USF in two years is one of the best OOC schedules in the country and we won every single game. So these guys need to get the f*** out of here comparing anything the ACC does OOC with Miami.

Conference expansion has done far more to kill the sport than NIL and the transfer portal combined.

First they put so many teams in each conference that nobody plays the same opponents in conference. One team can literally play the top 8 teams and another can play the bottom 8. At least when the ACC had divisions, everyone in the division played each other. You didn’t lose a shot at the conference championship game because you had to play tougher teams than the guy who gets a shot.

Now they’re expanding conference schedules to nine games which means SEC schools can just drop any non-conference game they have a shot at losing. They get over rewarded for conference wins so what’s the point in scheduling a good non conference opponent when you can just get three cupcake games and make the playoffs based on your perceived conference strength.

ACC/Big XII teams have no shot because their conference wins get ignored and the SEC won’t schedule against you in a non conference game so you have no chance get a “good win” in the eye of the committee.

As long as the committee values SEC wins and ignores SEC losses, there’s no reason for an SEC team to play anyone else.

If this comes down to ND or UM, it may well hinge on the PITT game. ND plays @ Pitt on Saturday and UM of course goes up there last game. I think the committee is looking for a way to keep Miami in SO the Canes just need to win out & strength of schedule will prevail.

LETS GO CANES!

Btw...

-Alabama lost to a 4-5 ACC school this year
-Georgia technically lost (IMO) to a 7-6 ACC school last year

The gold standard of SEC teams also lose to mid-ACC teams. So get the f*** out of here with this bulls***. If Alabama or Georgia was playing Louisville, SMU, last year's Syracuse, Pitt, and Miami int he 2nd half of the season then I promise there would be a loss in there for them.

Completely agree.
