They'll be with us in conversation for the best defense in CFB. The players listed are tough. The only one I would've left off is Perich since he didn't play that great last year.
 
Lightfoot has the potential to be the biggest terror on our D imo. Motor, strength, speed. Complete package. Il be surprised if he doesn’t tear it up and go early next year. So much talent

And a brand new DC who has never called defensive plays before. No one talks about that though.

Oregon is by far the most overrated team this offseason. Just like every year.

NO , it’s not , Reed put his legacy out there for his Cane family to aim at to achieve greatness that’s why it there .
Bryce is honoring Reed by going after his greatness as Bryce will instill in the young guns coming up.

What a tribute to a Hall of Fame player to have young players achieve all they can be .

Look what Bain and Mesidor have left behind, look at what they poured into the new guys .

This years D is NFL caliber loaded with NFL draft choices because of the Ed Reed’s Bain Mesidor and Antoine Scott.

The Playmaker speaks consistently about legacy and how the young kids owe everything to all you layed the groundwork, they all want there records broken and achievements.

This is who we are 🙌

Bryce had 2 INT’s in a college football playoff game, the 2nd in the end zone to the seal the victory. I can’t imagine there are many freshmen in the country able to do that. 6 INT’s as a true freshman while only starting when Keonte Scott was out for a few games.

He could easily have 10 INT’s if he plays a full season. That is pretty extraordinary.

And I love Justin Scott but defensive playmakers like Bryce come around every 10-20 years.

We can all agree that Bryce had a good year as a freshman...let's pump the brakes though. He has a knack for making plays on the ball but that does not equate a once in a decade player. Let him replicate, or exceed, those numbers first before jumping out the window.
 
We have four 5-star defensive linemen, and that doesn’t include Damon Wilson nor Ahmad Moten, both who are very much in play to be first rounders.

Show me another team who has two first-rounders on their DL *plus* four additional 5-stars.

This team is gonna be so ******* good.

Hope Bryce keeps working and doesn’t read about people comparing him yet to Reed or the other greats. I’d like to only compare his work ethic to Ed’s first and see if that stacks up. If it does he has a chance to be on his levels

Feel like CMB (Columbus Mafian Bryce) still is underrated by our fanbase who were more hyped about others than Fitz during the recruiting period.

Maybe post-turnover chain we have undervalued guys who create turnovers. History shows that the great ones do at this program. Not a prerequisite, yet an abundance is **** sure better than a deficit.

Jim Dooley actually has the single-game record with 4 interceptions against Clemson in the 1952 Gator Bowl.

I’m starting to believe this could be a historically great defense.
  • Hetherman in year 2
  • Return all but 1 defensive assistant
  • 6 returning starters
  • 9 returning rotational players
  • Experience and depth at every position
  • Moten, Wilson, and Scott getting first round buzz
  • Five, 5 stars in the defensive line rotation
  • 2 veteran LBs
  • The only freshman should see significant snaps is Dunnigan and he has been with the team since the playoffs
  • Fitz in year 2, as a full time starter

It’s within the realm of possibility.

Reasons it can be better:

Four 5-stars on the DL, plus Wilson and Moten
A healthy OJ, Brown (don’t laugh) combined with another year leap for Lucas, Poyser, Fitzgerald, and EOC
Toure is 37 years old and another full year removed from the knee injuries
Heatherman in Year 2 and almost full staff continuity
The offense should put them in very advantageous situations all year

Reasons it can take a step back:

You just don’t replace 3 and 4, especially on the edges in run defense
Keionte Scott was arguably the 4th best/most impactful player on the roster last year. Will Thornton be close as a replacement?
Chase Smith, imo, isn’t a good/great player. Will someone be better than 31 at Will, who admitted was probably good, at best? Wiley maybe?

The offense is the key for me. What if we are a juggernaut on that side and make teams press against our defense? Wilson and Lightfoot might both get 8+ sacks. What if Lowe is a first-round talent? What if Blount rises to that level?

Mario is a sick ****. We have so much talent on this side. Yeah, there are questions. What team doesn’t have questions in May? But ****, we just need a couple things to go even somewhat well and we can really pick right up where we left off. But I really think replacing 3, 4, and 0 is so tough to replicate. Maybe we don’t have to, exactly, but the DTs and DBs are much better? So excited to see what this serial killer we have at coordinator can do with this group. He’s got a sick collection of football players to move around the board.

I take 2 things from these stats.

1. Bennie Blades was a killer

2. We had (2) different guys named Whitey; in the 40’s and 50’s. That was an actual name that parents named their son. Whitey. Is that at least short for something? .

Only one I know for sure was Whitey Ford’s name was Edward. I doubt people actually named kids Whitey on their birth certificate but who knows?
