Portal is a tricky thing. Phillips came, he performed, he gone. We got 10 games out of he and Roche, and now there's word that Joyner is leaving, probably due to a lack of playing time. I'm not saying we should stop adding players through the portal, but this is a pretty clear case of development being hindered.

2020 CBS SPORTS ALL-AMERICA FIRST TEAM

WR | Elijah Moore | Ole Miss | Junior

Who was evaluating WR recruits in 2018 :hammering-head:

That donker, whatever his name was. Went back to FSU, and CMR

I think his daughter had a kid with one of our players.

I would trade 40 years worth of Joyner for one year of Phillips and Rousseau

This is pretty dumb using this example, Rok.

What other college did Phillips get developed at to perform like this? So I guess he didn’t develop either the two years he was here? He got developed at UCLA?

Also, I guess Rosseau was developed in high school and not at the U. If Joyner’s has something, Miami would be a perfect place for him in 2021.

I know you’re the king of hot takes, but sometimes you just can’t dumb them down too much or it gets too obvious.

Phillips really only played one season here. Pretty sure he didn't practice in 2019 but I could be wrong. Either way, this was his 4th year out of high school and his potential was finally realized. Kudos to Miami for having him transfer here, and for coaching him up (up until UNC at least) but his breakout season was bound to happen.

Joyner had 3 years to show something at Miami, so if he leaves it's understandable considering he was 3rd team, and might still be even after Phillips/Roche opted out. But it wasn't just Joyner who sat and watched Roche and Phillips all year.

Now don't get me wrong. Having 2 transfer DEs the caliber of Roche and Phillips was a blessing. I just hope we don't try to patch the perceived hole at DE now that they're gone. Instead, I'd like to see what the players already here are capable of despite their lack of experience. The same goes for other positions.

Landing Osborn, Phillips, Bolden, Roche, Borregales, etc was smart. Those guys helped us. But we're entering year 3 under Diaz so there should no longer be a reliance on the portal moving forward. It's time to grow this thing organically.

Recruiting has been good enough lately that we should allow these young and inexperienced players to play instead of having them watch from the sidelines while stop-gap transfers gobble up all the snaps.

Portal players are our best players. Diaz has been here since what 2016? and HC goin into year 3, the defense still has holes and we cant recruit corners. Only position that is miami stocked is safety.. It would do us well to continue to hit portal players who are developed elsewhere and can come here and take our talent level up.. Where would we be depending on Nkosi this season? Have you seen our WR play, we need multiple portal WRs, even if they are from Buffalo they are better than what we have..

Portal Players from QB, WR, OL, DL, DB, K, P have come here and helped us even when things have been bad in recent years. The players we do recruit dont seem to pan out or something.. We need to hit transfer portal harder if we are getting all americans, when is last time we have developed that?!

MOAR PORTAL is fine if there's a can't-miss player like King or Phillips who wants to be here, but we don't need to be as proactive. Transfers elect to come here because they believe it's their best path to the NFL. We need to be careful about what we become.

If Manny wants a rooster full of mercenaries then he'll be active on that front once again in 2021. I just think he's recruited well enough at every position and should be judicious on who he accepts through the portal from now on. Of course, we could use a CB, LT, DB, LB but not at the expense of playing time for Avantae, James Williams, Leonard Taylor, Romello Brinson, Larry Seymore, etc.

He was here 2 years. He worked out and did drills at the university in 2019. He’s spoken about his development. You already know he developed during his two years. You are one of the clowns that like to post before and after pics. Like I said before, don’t make your takes so obviously dumb. You’ll reel people in better with a little more subtlety.
