Miami Hurricanes four-star cornerback commit Kenton Dopson is moving up a grade, officially reclassifying from the 2027 class to 2026.



The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback from Miami Norland (Miami, FL) originally committed to the Hurricanes back in March. Dopson was one of the top overall prospects in the 2027 cycle, ranked as a top-100 player nationally and the No. 9 cornerback in his class.

As a sophomore at Norland, Dopson totaled three interceptions and 16 tackles, earning MaxPreps All-American honors for his standout play.

Dopson’s recruitment has drawn major national attention, holding more than 30 scholarship offers from schools around the country. His offer list includes Miami, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Texas, Texas A&M, Auburn, Penn State, North Carolina, and South Carolina, among many others.

Now set to join the 2026 class, Dopson’s move up gives Miami an elite defensive back a year earlier than expected.

It's important that people start understanding our issues and what's going on. Being informed is the best of paths forward. We don't have secondary issues at all normally. So adding someone that is a depth piece simply for the sake of adding someone because of what you're seeing these last couple games isn't accurate. It's important to remember our basically first & second team DBS have been injured all throughout the season and then plenty of instances our third stringers as well. We have dudes playing that have no business being on the field YET or possibly ever here. But you can't judge them for what they're playing as now when their dudes that were never in the plans to be on the field in the first place for this point in time. Our play calling certainly isn't helping them but that won't be fixed by adding depth pieces either. That's fixed by our DC opening his eyes and making adjustments to what teams are doing to us. Not trying to lecture and I hope you didn't take it that way. I just wanted to clarify we are in a very good place when it relates to our DBS and the talent level of the ones we should be expecting to play not to mention we are bringing in multiple monsters in this class as well at DB. If you was a safety I might not argue the point but for a corner definitely no need.

Exactly. If that's pops it's a two way street. As someone who's engaged in far too much stoopidity personally and for family sake, always gotta remember take the high ground. Cause a fan ain't got **** to lose in that approach.

I don't think we recruited anyone over him. We just had a lot of options in the class. I'm not going to speak on the kids or his nil because I don't know the details to it. But I don't think we prioritized anyone over him. Maybe we prioritized two guys as much as him. I don't think Camdin was one of them. It is important to remember Dennis was still on the booger sugar and the sauce and experimenting with new concierges at the time. Maybe that caused an issue. No clue. But I'm talking about where we're at now. No need to get impulsive.

Look, I respect the information. I'm not mad at the kid. For whatever reason, he made the decision he made. If he is NOT mad at Miami or feeling disrespected, that's great.

All I know is I thought this kid was the perfect nickel and we don’t have a mother****ing functional nickel unless we grab our FS and move him to Nickel, and even then Fitz needs to learn some tackling in the alley. So, that sucks.

this..we kind of made up for him with jalyn jones in this class but yea dobson would of fit in at the nickel spot good him and cmdin portis couldve duked it out and i think he had a higher ceiling than camdin. water under the bridge now though.

not mad if your only worried about the bag… playing for the dolphins on a crap team you can get all the cardio want…. LOSE… and that check is still gonna clear.

Some people want to win as well… kid probably plays here especially with all the injuries. Maybe not but JJ is gonna be another freshman all American for us and is playing on the #1 team in America… oh and I’m sure his bag isn’t light.
