2027 CB Board (2027 Edition)

I agree w/ @Memnon , the threads need to remain separate. Some of the major reasons:

  1. Each position group should have its own board.
  2. A lot of time is spent keeping the OP in each board up to date for quick access. If you merge, one of the OPs will be buried in the middle of the thread somewhere.
  3. Merging will make the boards inconsistent from a historical standpoint (older years and future years will have separate boards).
C’est la vie

The only guys who get crosstrained at Safety, are the ones who were already a Hybrid Safety to begin with.

OJ hasn't taken a snap at Safety, neither has O'Connor, or Lucas, or Antoine. And among the incoming Frosh, Waters, Portis & Jennings are staying at Corner.

Its just Dunnigan & Fritz really. None of the other Safeties are getting reps at Corner & technically speaking, playing Nickel is essentially the STAR/3rd-Safety spot anyway.

Safeties and Corners are different; just like DT's & DE's are different, just like Mike's, Will's & Sam-Backers are different.

No need to muddy up the CB thread with a bunch of Safeties, they got their own thread.

I agree own thread

And obviously your point about the nickle position at UM is dead spot on…But only issue I have is Portis? He's playing that nickle position isn't he? Didn't Mario say that (and others report it?) So basically he's in with the hybrids like Dunnigan, etc

Day and Thornton are getting a shot at Nickel, also. I believe it's shared between Thornton, Fritz and Dunnigan. I personally only like Thornton there as a dime LB. I believe all 3 play both positions. Don't know about Day.
Portis is also getting snaps at nickel, but their have to be injuries for him to play. I think Mack is also getting snaps there. It's ridiculous.
Antoine has put on 20lbs. from his skinny self last season. He is going to get more snaps this season, outside.

👀👀 Antoine my sleeper pick for guy who makes biggest jump. Think he’s CB3 by mid year and CB 1 come 27

We have different packages, fellas.
Different guys will go to Nickel depending on situation, D&D, offensive personnel, etc.

The Nickel, Strong and Free are basically a triangle of fluidity... and they all have to know how to do the same things.

Depending on play call, they will all blitz at some point... they will all cover the flats, they will all drop into the box and help versus the run, etc etc etc. The more versatile that room is, the more we can do.

The cornerback board, similar to the coaching situation, appears to be fluid as things get solidified.

A name at the very top of the board is Mustang (Okla.) Top 50 talent Gabriel Osborne Jr.. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder, who visited this spring, was initially thought to be a prospect who best projected as a safety, but the Hurricanes are now all in on the nation's No. 25 overall prospect playing cornerback in Coral Gables. Pulling the multi-sport standout away from the Sooners may ultimately be a tough task, but Miami is pushing for the elite defensive back.

Another elite talent that Miami is playing the long game with is Long Beach (Cali.) Poly five-star Donte Wright. The Georgia commit is exploring his options with Michigan, Miami, and Oregon pushing. The Hurricanes will continue to chop wood.

Others Miami is still involved with include Long Beach (Cali.) Poly Top247 talent JuJu Johnson, Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern cornerback Nash Johnson III, and West Boca (Fla.) defensive back Loia Valade, who recently moved to Palm Beach County from Tennessee.
Miami will prioritize watching the later Johnson, a former Alabama commit, and Valade this spring as they continue to evaluate their options.

We were never going to get a guy named Juju to leave Cali.
@JHallCanes is our resident nickname expert. I will let him have the final call on this one, but I would've thought "JuJu" would've been a nickname where we had something of a chance. Clearly, from a nickname standpoint at least, I was wrong.
