JJ would have shown no mercy coaching the 2001 team. Every game would have been a replay of the 'Cuse (59-0) and Washington (65-7) games.
The two off days (BC, VT) were Coker being a nice guy. You knew Coker was not a long term answer starting with Game 1 at Penn State. Led 30-0 at halftime, called off the dogs, and won 33-7. This teaches a team to coast.
Coker was sensitive to criticism after the Cuse and Washington beat downs and nearly cost us the VT game. No way VT was good enough to nearly come back being down 20-3 unless Coker lets up.
