Carter Davis

Im big on kicking mechanics. Here's what I've noticed with Carter Davis;

Davis has a tendency to leak balls to the right when he strikes too hard. If Im not mistaken, all of his misses this season have been from the left hash. That's where you have to aim a bit right. That can tend to accenuate leaking to the right. He also had a tendency to do it on extra points as he's likely focused on elevating the ball rather than aim. A few of them were close to missing right.

If at all possible, the offense needs to try to set him up on the right hash for longer kicks.

He's 4/9 from the Stanford game on from 40+ yards. 3/7 overall in the playoffs. Unless it's a ridiculous distance to go, if we have 4th down from the 25-35 yard line on Monday we should go for it.

3 misses of the 3/7 in the playoffs were in 197 mph winds and another was 51 or 52 yards last game.

He's still just 4/7 from 40+ over the last 9 games if you exclude the TAMU game. So we are either averaging 1.33pt/Davis kick or 1.71 from 40+.

It doesn't make sense to keep kicking them snapping the ball from ~25-35 yard line if it's 4th and medium or less. I'd go for everything 4th & 6 or less from the 25-35 yard line. Even though he made it, we should have gone for it on 4th and 2 from the 32 against OSU, with the way he has been kicking.

Ya it's essentially like leaving a draw "out there" from the tee box

Too funny. I have no means of doing that. Maybe D$ can. lol

Jokes aside, I often wonder who works with the field goal kickers. The special teams coach is usually focused on getting each special teams unit acting on the same page. My guess is that they leave the kickers to their private coaches, assuming they have one.

Miami has 2 special teams analysts to go along with the special teams coordinator. They also have 18 analysts overall. I'm sure one of them oversees it.
