During the Class 8A game against Pembroke Pines Flanagan, Becker (6-2, 180) tracked a deep ball and came away with an impressive interception that took tremendous ball skills.

That play was all new Miami had coach Mark Richt had to know about Becker to decide that the Hurricanes should now target the talented cornerback down the stretch.

“I talked to coach Richt on Monday and he told me that I now have an offer from Miami,” Becker said. “That was pretty cool to hear.”

Becker has his official visit dates filled up at this point, but Richt encouraged the in-state prospect to come down to the UM campus for an unofficial visit.

“Coach Richt just told me he had no idea why Miami didn’t offer me before, but now he wants me to visit,” Becker said. “As soon as he saw my film, he wanted to offer me, so I am going to go down there after the dead period and see what they got.”

Becker has already taken official visits to Wisconsin and N.C. State. He plans to take official visits to Ole Miss, Florida State, and Kentucky. At this point, N.C. State and Kentucky are the schools showing the most interest.

Becker grew up in Miami as a child before his family moved to Georgia and then settled in Kissimmee. Growing up in South Florida, Becker admits he was a fan of the Hurricanes.

“I am from there, so that was pretty much the school you cheer for when you live there and you are a kid,” Becker said.

Becker had never had any contact with Richt before Monday, but he did make a nice first impression during their brief conversation.

“Coach Richt seems like a good guy when I was talking to him on the phone,” Becker said.

“The biggest thing for me is just how comfortable am I going to be with the players and coaches there,” Becker said. “I want a good atmosphere.”

Before Becker will take his college visits, he will play in the Under Armour All American Game.

“I am looking forward to competing with some of the best players in the country,” Becker said. “I look forward to show what I got.”

Becker is a three-star prospect according to 247Sports and ranks as the No. 62 overall player in Florida. He finished his senior season with 74 tackles, ten pass break-ups, and six interceptions.

My god it feels good to have a competent talent evaluator as a our head coach. About time this kid was offered lets hope Richt can pull this out of the bag.

Golden wasnt a bad evaluator of talent for the most part. (I honestly think Randy was worse personally) Not many people knew who the heck Alex Collins was before we offered..Thurston Armbrister as well among other recruits that we found and offered first.

His problem is that he has a blueprint manual for each position and he wont differ from it EVER. Under no circumstances. DB is at the top of that blueprint. For some reason he is just stubborn as all **** when it comes to that position. I wonder what it was about this kid that made him skeptical..He looks pretty **** good to me.

Never heard of this guy until a couple of days ago and now everyone is talking about him. Seems like a real good prospect. Hope we can close the deal. Def need talent and depth everywhere, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Mushhahahahahaahahahhaahahahahahhahh amature hour

We have a real shot here. Kid hasn't really been leaning anywhere heavily and his parents want him close to home. Cautiously optimistic.

True. But i really wonder what his blueprint was. Last Years class he was screaming for corners with length and didn't offer Redwine until extremely late. So it looked like he was only gonna offer DB's with length, then this kid is right in front of him and he doesn't offer. I don't know man, i'm just happy Goldens gone and we have Richt in place with a chance to salvage this class.

Finally!

“Coach Richt just told me he had no idea why Miami didn’t offer me before, but now he wants me to visit,” Becker said. “As soon as he saw my film, he wanted to offer me, so I am going to go down there after the dead period and see what they got.”

That's such a refreshing quote to see. Would've loved to have seen Richt's reaction when he realized our prior staph never offered Becker.

Also goes to show how there was little rhyme or reason behind Golden's evaluations. They made it no secret that they had stringent size requirements for corners. They told a kid like Trajan Bandy that he needed to grow taller to get an offer. And yet they never even pursued talented corners with measurables they coveted like Becker, Quincy Wilson, or Tarvarus McFadden.

Ryan Mayes, though? Offered early and prioritized throughout. SMFH.

Don't care how many stars he has or doesn't have. He needs to be in this class! Has superstar potential.

all you need to know is he was invited to the Under Armour game and is playing in it. Zach Mccloud didnt even get an invite.

See I didn't even know that. He has a little recognition at least. Kids highlights are amazing.

It's too bad we apparently are not going to get an official visit. Hopefully, he'll change one of them (e.g. FSU), as it is a very rare circumstance that a recruit commits without an OV.

i think that came from different philosophies amongst the coaching staff. people focus on the "division" between players. that naturally came with the loosing but the real red herring was the division amongst coaches. that video of the defensive coaching staff evaluating recruits was very revealing.
