In a surprise announcement today, the Miami Hurricanes announced on their website that they have added Switzerland’s Niclas Genovese to their 2015 spring roster. Genovese is 20 years old and according to the Hurricanes site, he has been the hitting partner for top tour players during the last couple of years.

Genovese, a native of Zug, Switzerland comes to Coral Gables with an extensive playing career as well as strong resume as a hitting partner.
Genovese was ranked as high as 1288 in the International Tennis Federation juniors rankings, and was a finalist at the Nike Juniors Masters and a semifinalist at the Interclub Nati-B tournament. He was an active member of the Swiss Team from 2005-2010, and has played in Futures events in Austria, Israel, France, Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland.
On the World Tour, Genovese has been a hitting partner with the former WTA World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark, as well as the 16-time Grand Slam winning doubles pair of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan from the United States, more famously known as the “Bryan Brothers.”

This certainly adds an interesting element to the Canes' season. It remains to be seen whether Genovese will start right off and if so, where he would be in the lineup. Still, this is very welcome news for a Canes team that needs all the help it can get. A big welcome to Niclas!

Sidenote: It also appears that Daniel Shebshayevich is also no longer on the roster. He was not expected to be one of the top six players for the Canes this season but sorry to see him gone. Good luck to him wherever he ends up.
