The Hurricane bounced back in big fashion on Monday as they grabbed their 8th win of the season by defeating Savannah State 70-39.

The ‘Canes came out of the gate firing as they attacked the paint which led to 15 free throw attempts and converting 12 of them. The ‘Canes led 34-23 going into the half even with some poor ball handling as they totaled 12 turnovers.

Angel Rodriguez was able to bounce back for the Hurricanes after a poor performance against Green Bay, as Rodriguez had 17 points along with 4 assist. Sheldon Mclellan and Manu Lecomte both scored in double figures as well with 15 points a piece.

The Hurricanes then exploded in the second half and took over a twenty point lead with more than 10 minutes left in the half. Junior Tony Jekiri also had a bounce back performance as he grabbed nine rebounds along with scoring eight points.

Defensively, the Hurricanes locked down in the second half holding Savannah State to a shooting percentage of 26%. The Hurricanes also recorded 12 teals including 3 from center Joe Thomas

The Hurricanes, now 8-1, prepare for Friday as they take on Eastern Kentucky at home.

Analysis: Flat out Miami was simply more talented than this team. The only reason it wasn’t worse was due to the sloppy ball handling by the Hurricanes in the first half. It was definitely encouraging to see both Angel Rodriguez and Tonye Jekiri have those performances to make up for the previous game.
