Canes sign QB Dereon Coleman, a premium arm talent

The Hurricanes have officially signed their quarterback for the 2026 class, Dereon Coleman.



A 6-foot-1, 165-pounder, Coleman makes up for the lack of frame with his ability to make any throw across the field — able to zip the ball and manipulate his arm angles at will.



This season Coleman has been lights out for his Jones side, racking up 2,391 passing yards and 25 touchdowns while only throwing one...

Even if he were, Mario hates putting his faith in an unproven QB. EVEN EXPERIENCED QBs have to hand it off excessively

I’m a Nickel fan as well, but he needs some real reps to show whether he has the arm talent to succeed at this level. Though I guess the coaches see it in practice.

would you feel comfortable putting a 165lb true freshman qb out there in any circumstance? kid needs to put on some weight yesterday. a year or two of s&c are a must.

Love this kids arm and fearless attitude but man is this gonna work at Miami with his size? Obviously, he will be redshirted and can build his body but will he be able to see the field over our gigantic OL?

Even after a redshirt year, do we think he’ll add THAT much weight to be ready? Just seems like one of those guys that will always be on the lighter end (Jacolby George, Travis Benjamin body types).

Why not? CJ Bailey at NCST did it, came in at 170, up about 20 lbs and playing, and he’s a bit taller…
