Canes Portal Wrap Up and. Season Prediction

7 "Difference Makers" from our transfers is ambitious.

2 I'd expect to be - Ward & Martinez.

I'd set the Over/Under at 2 more guys being actual "Difference Makers" vs contributors.

But hard to ask for much more from Mario out of the portal. He's done well.

I think it just depends on your definition of "difference maker" like I somewhat doubt Barrow ends up as disruptive as Byron Murphy. I hope he does but he could put up number similar to LT56 last year. Would I call LT a difference maker last year? No but he flashed and def contributed and started and played a ton of snaps.

He's not Walter Nolen but he got mentioned in the Sparty week writeups for Ohio State and Michigan so that suggests to me that he moves the needle.

In any game we have on this schedule, including FSU, UF, and VT UM will have easily the best QB, RB, WR, OL, DL, and specialists.

That **** has to count for something lol
Yes it will.

Think of how much more powerful the huddles will be when 🪽Cristoból uses all the timeouts in 1Q and 3Q.

Also, NONE of those players will be taking a knee, you can bet your cot **** *** on that!

Prepare to weep tears of joy my friend.

Ward, Martinez and Baron are the big dogs. Brown will be a situational difference maker, so if that counts yes. I’d put Powell above Brown to round out the four I’m looking to have the most impact.

It'll be interesting to see how opponents decide to block our front four, of an expected CJ Clark, Barrow, Bain, and Baron.

Clark is the Nose so he eats the doubles in the run game, but you gotta go 1v1 vs someone on that front four, who you picking and we could replace Clark with Mesidor.

This is why Baron was a big get, because if Mario expects teams to play from behind or pass rush is gonna be tough to defend against.
Sure our back 4/5 is weaker but hard to throw when the QB is on the ground.

Sacks are a touch random as a stat but 3 per game usually ranks you in the Top ~15 nationally. I’ll be really disappointed if we don’t get that number this year.

We finished at 2.58 last year, by the way. Have to have 35+ sacks (pause) in the 11 real games this year.

He could, and I hope he does... but that writeup didnt scream glowing review to me. Seemed like the writer was doing a matchup analysis and got to the DL vs OL analysis.

-Mich State D line was a RELATIVE strength
-Barrow most organic pass rusher on the entire line but then adds in: (not saying much)
- Dangerman for this piece but a weaker star and a cut below Jacob Slade

For reference Slade was an UDFA in last years draft by the cardinals, spent some time on the practice squad now on the Steelers. I think everyone is hoping to see Barrow turn into a mid-day draft pick.

To me the review was like he is the best of a okay bunch. Also we needed him, I was not expecting to get Maason in the portal, he is a good get, I think he will be solid, I just had a true "difference maker" definition a bit higher.

A lot of Barrow contribution won’t show up in the stat sheet. But he’s a very important piece this year.

Exactly. Dude makes one tackle and some on here would say, "See? He made a difference!"

To me, a difference maker is a guy the other team has to plan around, in one way or another. A guy, who by just being on the field, creates stress for the other team.

There's no doubt we brought in some talent, and they can all play and contribute, but I only see a couple that teams are already looking at and going, "What are we going to do about this guy?"

Now, I hope that changes by mid-September, and we have 7 guys who are that big of a problem for opposing teams. I'll just have to see it to believe it.

My pre-fall camp prediction is 10-2 (6-2). We beat Florida and FSU, but drop a tough away game at Louisville and to some other team (could be VT). Undefeated back half of the season and probably more than enough to get into the ACC championship.

I’ll add this caveat. If this offense is as good as it looks on paper, this team should win every game on this schedule. It’s been 22 years since we’ve done that though, so not holding my breath until I see them play.

Also, if we’re 6-0 (2-0) going into our first bye, we’re likely a top ten team and favored in the rest of our games. That’s the best case scenario though, which again hasn’t happened in a long long time.
