Biggest reason to be in top 25, and I agree the polls don't matter now, is to get on news highlights and scoreboard. When you are out of top 25 it's like you don't exist and get no pub.

No, it matters for selling the program for recruiting, makes your ceiling higher for where you can rise throughout the year and helps determine which windows of TV our games come on. It matters. It matters. It shouldnt, but it does.
Top 25 gets more exposure, better TV slots, something to point to in recruiting etc.

You also want your league to have as many ranked teams as possible going into conference play. Thats what the SEC always does, play nobody away out of conference and have a boat load of ranked teams early. Then they just keep exchanging spots in the top 25 because conferences losses are SEC SEC!

Honestly, we might have the 1st mentally tough UM team in 20 years. I doubt being ranked 23 affects them. This isn’t a sideline heater when it’s 55 degrees type team.
