Canes Camp Report: Day 9

Gotta say, I'm starting to get genuinely excited about a few things that are consistently showing up in these videos:

- passes to the RBs, particularly using the middle of the field
- passes to the middle of the field in general
- seam routes to the TE
- very narrow defensive windows
- athletic plays on both sides (Grace's INT was very impressive)

Yes, we are seeing more and more passes over the middle. Heaps barely threaded that one in there but definitely nice. Haven't seen many of those WR screen type passes that we did all year last year...though with what Coley can do with those, I grew to like them lol.

I'll say this about our coaching staff after having watched all these Canes Camp video...it seems quite obvious why we are missing on our DT and DB targets. Williams and Jethro Franklin flat out have zero charism and their ability to speak in public lacks the excitement and exuberance that you look for in a recruiter. Listen to Brown and Ice and Golden and Coley...those are guys who are smooth as silk when it comes to talking, relaying the company line and are natural salesmen with the ability to relate to their client/prospect. Williams and Franklin are stiff as a board and simply do not have "it" when it comes to the skill set necessary to be an above average recruiter.

Just an observation...

I bet they can spell better then you.

In what universe are we missing our DB targets? We have the best group of secondary players we've had here in a decade.

Exactly. If Williams is a liability as a recruiter, how are we getting these DBs? Also, guys recruit regions as well as positions. It's not like a DT only talks to Jethro.

Thank you for your observation. For a moment, just a moment, I was distracted by something positive....like the thought of the duke getting a pass over the middle and stiff-arming his way to a 70 yd TD. Thank you for observation concerning the team's camp performance

i'll admit Williams doesn't strike me as the best recruiter either, but of all the positions that have progressed with this team DB has been by far the best IMO. This DB core has improved not just because they are talented but because they are well coached as well. As for Jethro all DL recruits i read up on rave about Jethro, he just hasn't been able to close the deal at DT just yet, we have recruited some of the most talented DE's in the country on to this team.

Paul Williams' voice = Mike Tyson's voice. The only thing missing was him shrugging and throwing phantom jabs at Zagacki's jaw during the interview.

Speaking of which...anyone think Zagacki kinda looks like the comedian, Brian Regan?

If a collection of Jaquan, Irvin, Cole, D.Davis a C. Davis screws us around all year only to sign with other teams I'll pin it on Williams and his inability to sell with conviction. Same goes for Jethro but I've been thinking that for a few years now. Those two guys flat out seem dull compared to our other coaches and I can only imagine how that translates on the recruiting trail vs other teams.

please...every staff has its stud recruiters and its more laid back guys. plus some guys are just cut out for a certain role. there are coaches who are good recruiters and coaches who are motivators or technicians. everyone doesn't have the skill of a james coley.

as stated, coaches don't recruit their positions. but keep showing how little you know.

LULZ at the geniuses on here judging Williams's ability to recruit based off an interview with Frankengacki. You guys never cease to amaze me with your superhuman powers.

God **** there are some stupid -- and I mean borderline handicapped -- people on this board.

we haven't talked about him much, but whenever we see a clip of him, he's doing quite well....Beau Sandland. While I like Walford, his inconsistent hands have me questioning him. Beau catches the ball and looks to run over people and so do Stan. Those two should be on the top of the depth chart. As we have seen, the TE position is becoming more and more important as they are causing mismatches against LBs. With Stan and Beau, or receiving game would literally be unstoppable. Herb, Stacy, Phillip, Braxton, Duke, Joe, Beau, Stan....who would you cover??
