Rule number 1 in coaching - put players in a position to be successful, and that usually means - go to their strengths. Gage is a reliever, period. If he has to take 3 - 4 MPH off his fastball to start, it's a BP fastball because it doesn't have enough movement.

J.D. didn't forget 20 years of being a pitching coach in the last two seasons. Put him back in the pen for the good of the team AND the player.
