I don't dislike Butch at all, and would have been fine with him being our coach again. I just want to point out that as I recall, an awful lot of our fans wanted to run him off from 1995-1999......probably some of the same people who are now his biggest fans.

North Carolina had more players drafted during Butch Davis' tenure than in the previous decade. Miami was more consistent. You only have to go back roughly 7 years (1988) to match the same draft total of Davis' tenure.

After Butch Davis players left, it wouldn’t be until 2017 than North Carolina would have a player taken in the NFL Draft (Mitch Trubisky QB Rd1 - Chicago Bears)

During the same time period Butch Davis was at North Carolina (2006 to 2011), Miami had three fewer players drafted (27). Only one of them - Kenny Phillips in 2008 - would be a first round pick. North Carolina had 7 first round picks during the same period.

Looks like those same fans like to run off coaches. Davis for most of his stay here. Coker Shannon golden and now Richt. I’m not defending any of the above Coaches, but haters will always be haters. Miserable malcontents.

Just imagine if you'd been able to include those that Butch evaluated and recruited under Jimmy Johnson.

Jimmy cut Butch loose every Thursday to do his thing.

For reason.

Think I saw two D-Lineman drafted in that time period but he may have been responsible for recruiting other positions. Harder to track as positition coach.

Was Butch recruiting coordinator under Jimmy?

And accept for 2000 his overall record stinks at us and unc. With all the nfl players he had on his teams he underperformed as a coach. Decent recruiter lousy x and o man. His botch psyseudonym was earned.
I certainly won't defend him as a HEAD coach but to say decent recruiter im sorry but you lost my attention. In this day and age with data bases being what they are holy jeezus would it be too easy for him. Al the same I'm perfectly happy with cmr as our head coach & I dont believe at this point butch wouldve been the right man for the job. I gaurentee if he got the job he wouldnt have been gave the same budget cmr was for his staff.

Pretty much. As has been stated - Butch left on Thursdays to go evaluate and recruit for Jimmy. Jimmy of course always had the last say - but Butch Davis was the magic for the talent we pulled in. Recognized as such by Jimmy, and on starting on Thursdays - that was his prime directive.

Butch also had a lot of input when Jimmy took over the Cowboys on acquiring personnel.

I think the best scenario would be if a smaller school hired Diaz away and then Richt hires Butch as defensive coordinator/head of recruiting. Would this satisfy everyone???
