Can we stop labeling coaches that are undeserving?

To a lesser scale, every new hire gets the hype. Usually why there is a recruiting bump in most cases.

Florida comes to mind. They swore G5 Billy Taggart was Corch Irvin Meyas 2.0. Now this toolbag from Tulane. He’s so tough. Old school. Blah blah blah.
 
The anointing of Lanning is by far the most egregious. No previous head coach experience. Coached defense at Georgia under an already established scheme and culture. Anyone with a pulse can recruit at Oregon.

Why was he anointed? Because of his pregame speeches? He is a horrible game day coach, always has been. And yes he had brought in talent, but clearly not the right talent. If I am an Oregon fan I am beyond worried. And I want a word with all the Oregon fans that rejoiced when Mario left.
 
Most of these coaches are overrated as tactical football minds, leaders and mentors. (for avoidance of doubt, i’m saying they suck at all three).

You can see it everytime one of them gets on TV and throws their team under the bus. Half of the time, it seems like they (the coaches) are spending more time working on their brand than they are actually trying to win games.

they just get a pass because it looks more like *real talk* to appeal to the GM and owner (NFL) generation.

Lincoln Riley’s QB reputation is earned & deserved. Identified & developed QBs. Would also give Sark his due as an above average offensive coach/coordinator. Not sure anyone has labeled him a mastermind.
