Can this oline be as good as 2023?

Agree about the OL and rushing attack but I'm curious on where we were ranked in the playoffs. If I had to guess I believe we we're number 1 and that was against some really good run defenses. 🤷‍♂️
Considering the defenses we were facing, we ran the ball really well in the playoffs. Not so much the championship game where Fletcher’s long run masks the fact that we did nothing else on the ground for a majority of the game but every other game we were very effective.

Anyone have any insight on what happened to Okunlola? I know Meriweather had a cleanup on his knee. Would really suck if both are out for spring. These guys need as many reps together as possible...

LT - McCoy vs Rivers - Rivers IMO is a better player
LG - Cohen vs Okunlola - Debatable definitely more athleticism with Samson
C - Lee vs Rodriguez - Major downgrade
RG - Cooper vs Buchanan - Not even sure it’ll be Max but I’ll say downgrade
RT - Mauigoa vs Cantwell - there’s a chance for sure here

If that’s the 5 really it’s LG and RT where you could see similar or better play. Other 3 spots IMO will be a downgrade.
In my opinion, people are sleeping on McCoy. He’s a true NFL tackle, while Rivers was always a guard. The only real downgrade in this group is at center. What gives this unit a clear edge over the 2023 group is the level of competition they see every day in practice. The 2026 defensive line is leaps and bounds better than the 2023 unit, which accelerates development across the board. On top of that, this group, including Cantwell, got an extra month of development during the playoff run, which was essentially an extra spring.

This offensive line is going to be dominant next season.

Any word on how Cantwell is doing? Didnt he have a few practices with the team during the playoffs?
247 had quotes from Brockemeyer and Markell Bell speaking highly of him which must mean he’s not only integrated with the team but, is showing eagerness to work on his craft and compete.

Classic Cristobal & Mirabal recruit

There are 3 younger OL that I would like to see emerge during spring. Juan Minaya, Demitrius Campbell and Jaden Wilkerson.I'm not expecting them to challenge for starting roles but would like to see them emerge as legitimate depth.

I'm no insider but from what I've heard, Cantwell immediately announced himself from day 1 along with a few others(Wingo, Dunnigan etc..) What really stands out is the absolutely immense power he is able to generate from his hands. The coaches are extremely excited. Also heard he is very receptive to being coached. He is a guy who lives to work on his craft and get better everyday. Cantwell is a Mario kid through and through!
Cantwell will be the Tackle we have had in years

The only better player because of experience here is Lee. All this years players are better then that team in 2023 Cooper and Francis weren’t the 2025 players then they were good not great.

Without being at practice, the best way to tell if younger guys are making a push is to see which older guys transfer out. Kinsler, Plazz and Francovilla all left. It’s safe to say they were all passed up in the depth chart.

The one thing Miami with Mirabal and Mario really excels at is pass blocking.

Even going back to 2023, and with the two 10+ win teams in 2024 and 2025, at times the run blocking was up and down, but no matter what, through 3 QBs and 3 iterations of the line, we had all day to throw the football.

I mean, the numbers in 2025 were staggering. Beck faced less pressure than any QB in the country, and it wasn't even close.

So I think we have to trust that the floor here is a very good pass protecting line. I know Mario will never go full air raid, but I really think the 2026 offense will be much closer to the 2024 offense than 2025. I don't mean statistically, although I think that will come to fruition as well. But I think stylistically.

If you have an elite passer, with elite pass protection, and a talented and diverse WR room led by a Top 2 player at that position naturally, you gotta lean into that.

2025 plays per game: 66.4
2024 plays per game: 70.9

2025 pass attempts per game: 30.6
2024 pass attempts per game: 38.0

Now, you need to add some context here. These were markedly different defenses, which led to how we played offense. It wasn't JUST Cam Ward vs Carson Beck. In 2024, we had to go a little faster and had to throw the ball more because we knew we needed to score 100 points to win games. In 2025, we leaned far more on the defense.

My hope is, as much everyone laughed at "let it rip" after the SMU game, we actually did, and Mario leans a little more into that this year. I have full confidence that the 2026 offensive line is going to hold up well enough in pass pro for us to be much more explosive and vertical than we were in 2025.

Also, the better pass game we should have in 2026 should itself help open up our run game since the opposing D will not be able to put as many guys in the box against Mensah and co.

They should be good enough to duplicate some of the concepts Ole Miss ran with their 2025 OL. Perhaps Mensah doesn't have the same escapability and movement of Chambliss, but the point is I'd like to see us spread the field a bit more and our "quick game" can still be more vertical than it was this past season.

Bro I honestly have to calm myself down when my mind starts to race on thoughts of the 2026 offense.

I'm so ******* jealous of Shannon Dawson right now. It's almost embarrassing how many toys he gets to play with. I would have so much fun coordinating this offense that I wouldn't even be able to sleep at night.
