Can the NCAA survive this California bill?

Is it better for the NCAA / University OR ....a Player to profit from the use if his own image

  • ONLY the NCAA and the University ..keep it as it is

  • ONLY The Player...it is his image so he should be able to profit from it

  • They should split the proceeds from the use of a players image

  • It should be held in a Trust for the Player....until the player is no longer on scholarship

as i understand, the law also prohibits NCAA from enforcing any punitive or penalizimg action against member schools in whatever and wherever venues they play (i.e. outside CA).

the rub will be if a court enforces Cali's reach outside its borders....

The only thing stopping the NCAA from kicking Cali schools out is anti-trust. Unless anti-trust would also prevent them from penalizing Cali schools with post-season bans, scholarship limits, etc. there is no State of California law that can stop the NCAA from doing that. As long as the penalties the NCAA lays down are not more punitive than the penalties they would lay down for any other member organization, I don’t think there would be any legal issues.

I posted on another thread about this topic that this is the states getting back at the ncaa.
Ncaa Can’t be protecting the good ole boy network and then slamming a MAC school.
USC got a ****le stripped for far less than the sht sec has been caught doing over and over again.
We’re still paying for the sht the ncaa put us through. How many usc UCLA cal alumni are state employees? What about Stanford? You think they they’ve gotten letters and calls about the sht that’s going on?
Can’t beat them so join them. Sec wants to move families from Hawaii and laugh at schools getting scholarships taken away and bowl bans for a dinner. They want to sit there and act like a governing body while doing jack sht to schools doing it in front of everybody's face.

Country music is the most listened to music in the country (by far) in regard to total listeners. It is also the least purchased...........

Least purchased? Numerous country artist are amongst the top 25 earners in the music industry.

My point was that it is popular all over the country and its asinine for people to believe that all of a sudden big media markets will dominate. The powerhouse programs aren't located in big media markets, but they're largely popular to a wide audience or even the entire state. That in itself makes it a media market or marketable to a large group of people.

As for country music, I'll pass. I just don't have my head stuck in the sand as to it.

What is to stop a company whose founders etc are huge USC fans from saying If you are a 5 star we will sign you to a guaranteed 500k(whatever figure you want ) endorsement contract if you come to USC.
Wonder if Bush can get his trophy back.

Answer to question
Can the NCAA survive this California bill?
NO!

The NCAA is going down as we know it. This is actually an easy way for them to wash their hands of the black markets. The bigger issue is medical coverage for players. Do you think Young, Richards, et al. are getting coverage for their career-ending injuries and long-term side effects? NOPE! What about the big money the NFL paid players for CTE... nothing for NCAA kids. This is just the tip of the berg and the NCAA will be broken into Ivy League type of schools that want nothing to do with pay to play but will allow Olympic style of player rights AND employed players/minor leagues.
