Can Miami elevate Mario

I keep seeing things like his career record etc. But does no one believe the program can elevate him as it did with jj Dennis? I think detractors think his record should be better than what it is so he’ll fail here. I think here he’s in the best recruiting situation of his head coaching career.
His great recruiting has masked his gross coaching ineptitude when you go up against similarly talented teams you need coaching to get you over the top and I have zero confidence Mario can do that

I think that Mario is such a strong recruiter that he will deliver on JJ's comment about "Jimmies and Joes". However, in order to deliver on Erickson's "innovative playcalling", he is going to need to get a very modern OC. I respect Mario, but his impact on offense, and as an offensive coordinator, has been focused on the O-line and the run game. We have a stable of 3 fantastic QBs, I would think that Mario would be best-served by hiring an OC who can utilize those 3 QBs. As for defense, I don't think that Mario has to hire a Venables-level DC to succeed, but someone who knows how to use SoFla talent and let kids play to their abilities.

I think Mario will do very, very well at Miami, and like JJ and Erickson and Butch and Coker, this may very well be the pinnacle of his collegiate coaching career (no idea if he has any future NFL thoughts). His first big test will be the OC hire.

I imagine the concern is that he had all the money in the world at Oregon and didn’t do better.
Everyone thinks he has it just because of Phil Knight…it’s been said over and over - when has Oregon ever spent on athletic hires? Trick question: they haven’t. This contract extension they offered is cheap as well - 7 mil without taxes? Child’s play.

Didn't do better?

He won conference championships.

And who has won national championships the last 15 years outside of Nick and Dabo and Urban?

Did you think we were getting Jimbo? Rehiring Orgeron? Rehabbing Chizik?

Honestly, are there ANY other guys who have "done better" over the past 15 years? Who are still alive and/or not retired (sorry, Mack)?

Yep, the OC is key. Gotta keep the Air Raid going where the pass sets up the run. Wins games and is so much fun to watch.

Fiu is irrelevant. Look at the God butchs record at fiu

Yea. We elevated Jimmy J and I think Mario has a lot of the same traits. That one thing Jimmy did that set him apart though is that he was surrounded by future NFL/NCAA HC’s which means he understood good coaching when he saw it. Mario should have the money to get anybody he wants. It’s all up to what he does with it but judging that even Manny could attract Rhett and T-Rob Mario can over exceed that by a mile.

He is a Miami guy so he will be on a long leash. Plus the money that will be pumped into him will make it harder for the administration to do anything.

Fans will be happy with a 9 win season because it is their Mario. The golden savior of Miami football.

Its simple. He will need an excellent staff to reach full potential.

Dan Mullen OC
T Rob DC (got scolded for this)

Will Muschamp

Start with that

His first big test will be leaving the ducks and signing with the Canes.

Mario has great qualities as a coach. And he also has bad qualities as a coach. Kirby smart is a lazy comparison and also inaccurate. Kirby comes with a scheme. Mario is more Mack brown or Bobby Bowden than he is Kirby. So the name of the game is recruit great talent. Run a clean program. Get great assistants. Mack is old as the hills but he did that in his earlier years. Bowden did that obviously. Can Mario replicate that?

The thing that attracts me to Mario is that he could be here for 15 years. Lane will be here max 4 years. It’s his way. And if he lands arch no chance he leaves. That’s his ticket right there
Basically their goal is to stack recruits and get to the playoffs as often as they can once it expands then Mario was the perfect person for this job regardless of his Oregon warts
