Can Corch D's scheme work with elite talent?

I know we have beaten this to death over the last 2 weeks but I am curious of anyone feels that this defensive scheme can be effective even with elite talent at every position. I think it safe to say everyone realizes we are missing talent at S and are struggling with quality depth at LB, but would it even matter if we put elite guys at those positions.

Too often we have said we are only a player or two away from being back and I have been one of the people that felt we were close, but I truly don't think this scheme will work here even as we continue to stockpile talent. We are far too passive and it seems like we want our defensive lineman to engage blockers instead of penetrating on run plays. The fact that we continue to get absolutely sodomized by crossing routes and passes into the flats makes me think it's more than just miscommunication out there. These guys are 9 games into the season the miscommunication issue should have been solved by now.

IMHO we have enough talent to challenge teams more man-man, but continue to allow mediocre WR's and QB's look like all-americans out there and that has been a problem for 3 years. Corch D even said he's been telling us that's been a problem since he's been here, well here's an idea genius, devise a scheme or game plan to address the problem.

I love what Coach Golden has done for this program over the last 3 years, getting us through the NCAA mess and restocking the talent for the most part, but he has to make a very tough decision at the end of the year and let his best friend go. We have given up over 500 yards 3 weeks in a row and that is simply unacceptable. Golden preaches accountability and at the end of the day he has to realize that we need to go in a different direction on defense because I don't think this scheme would work with 5* talent at every position.

Sure. Give him the nfl pro bowl team and I'm sure we can get off the field on 3rd down half the time

Miami isnt missing talent at safety.... D'onofrio chose to play Highsmith b/c his philosophy isnt about talent. Muschamp puts their best DBs at safety regardless of what position you are listed on the depth chart.

But to answer your question.... YES elite 5 star talent at every position when they are 5th year Seniors would make this defense work.

But that isnt ever going to happen b/c D'onofrio cant even recruit 3 star talent to come to Miami.

So it's all a pipe dream either way.

No. We cant win without a QB that doesnt care about winning either.

LOL of course the clueless has to turn it into a topic about Morris even though he was 1 of only 3 players (Morris, Hurns, and Perryman) who had a good game against VT and played like they wanted to win.

What we are left HOPING is that the philosophy of the coaches will change with better players. We know that the defense in general aims to stop the run and prevent the big play with the underlying theme being that eventually the offense will ***** up or we'll hold the offense in the red zone when the windows are tighter and they lose space. I do believe that the philosophy is predicated on us not being all that talented and us being so bad on defense last year. What we have to HOPE is that with better players the coaches will alter that philosophy and be more willing to attack and dictate to the offense.

What concerns me more is that we KNOW that this team has defensive playcalls that do not consistently leave the flat 15 yards open or completely fail to cover crossing routes. We know that these are often errors in execution--again, no scheme consistently allows the flat to be open by 10 yards. Better players aren't necessarily likely to execute better. They can run faster and hit harder, but their brains aren't going to be much better. Given that, it's likely that the flat will still be open by 10 yards unless we change something dramatic (eg simplifying the defense globally). They'll just give up 10 yards instead of 14 because they'll get there faster and put the guy down.

My fears exactly, Dorito needs to show that he can adapt and change, he seems more likely to blame the players for not executing rather than putting them into position to succeed.

No, Ono could not even win with our 2001 defense.

He would have had Reed, looking at the classified section, after college.

There will never be "elite" talent playing on this "scheme."

Tracy Howard seems to be doing well, feel he would be even better if he was allowed to play more man to man.

lol what?... our DBs are playing "more man to man". it's not about playing more man to man its about playing more aggressive and in a scheme that allows talent to make plays, it's a difference.

Wasn't there talk last year he and No D were not on good terms?

Honestly, I don't see how any elite defensive recruit would be excited playing in this scheme. We can't even figure out how to use the elite talent we have brought in (McCord, AQM).

Yes. It would work. People want to act like this guy is mentally retarded. He's not. He coaches the way he does because he doesnt trust his players. He obviously doesnt feel he has the personnel to run what he wants to run, so he's in a shell all the time, and thinks that a bunch of multiple sets is going to confuse opposing teams, but what it mostly does is confuse our own players.

I dont think the guy is as bad as everyone thinks. I think he's made some big blunders the last two years because of the personnel he has. I think all this "hybrid" cr#p and the move to a 3-4 has been rushed and has been a mistake.

I honestly think if the guy was comfortable with the guys he had, we would probably see a much better product. In contrast to some, I DO think the 3-4 can work ok at the college level, but its not very well suited to the players we have, and all the switching back and forth has led to a gagglef*ck on the defense.

The DBs have been fine minus Highsmith. Who gets credit for being in the right place but never seems to be able to make a play. The problem comes with our LBs in coverage. They have been awful this year, whether in zone or man to man.
