I know we have beaten this to death over the last 2 weeks but I am curious of anyone feels that this defensive scheme can be effective even with elite talent at every position. I think it safe to say everyone realizes we are missing talent at S and are struggling with quality depth at LB, but would it even matter if we put elite guys at those positions.
Too often we have said we are only a player or two away from being back and I have been one of the people that felt we were close, but I truly don't think this scheme will work here even as we continue to stockpile talent. We are far too passive and it seems like we want our defensive lineman to engage blockers instead of penetrating on run plays. The fact that we continue to get absolutely sodomized by crossing routes and passes into the flats makes me think it's more than just miscommunication out there. These guys are 9 games into the season the miscommunication issue should have been solved by now.
IMHO we have enough talent to challenge teams more man-man, but continue to allow mediocre WR's and QB's look like all-americans out there and that has been a problem for 3 years. Corch D even said he's been telling us that's been a problem since he's been here, well here's an idea genius, devise a scheme or game plan to address the problem.
I love what Coach Golden has done for this program over the last 3 years, getting us through the NCAA mess and restocking the talent for the most part, but he has to make a very tough decision at the end of the year and let his best friend go. We have given up over 500 yards 3 weeks in a row and that is simply unacceptable. Golden preaches accountability and at the end of the day he has to realize that we need to go in a different direction on defense because I don't think this scheme would work with 5* talent at every position.
