Cam Ward he is not

I felt like there were a lot of RPOs with basically all of them going to run. I can only assume that the choices were dictated by the defense.

I think that should be considered when talking about "taking the ball out of Beck's hands" or "conservative play calling". At least in the 3rd quarter. I think the fourth quarter was exactly what it looked like. I don't love it but it worked. It won't always.

But then again, the same could be said about aggressive play calling. If he kept the pedal to the floor there are lots of ways that could have gone badly; turnovers, 3&outs, sacks, etc.

So let's not pretend that this place would be all rosy with "at least we went down swinging" thoughts. Mario would have been roasted for not knowing how to play with the lead.
This is true. Great point.

How many of the 24 wins were he blamed for?
Not sure what you mean. Are you saying he was given credit for all their wins while at UGA? Yes, in 2023 Beck and Brock Bowers were certainly given credit for their success. In 2024, UGA’s defense was given most of the credit for their wins. Beck was blamed for both of their losses. Even in the SEC championship, Gunner Stockton was given credit for that while even though Beck outplayed him until the injury. Stockton did just enough to not lose, but the media was all over his nuts like he was Tim Tebow.

It was a shot at people not giving Beck credit for being a winner. His critics point to his picks with crappy weapons but not the record.

Trader out
Lyle out

Mario crawls into his tough shell.

Oh yeah, one target to Lofton the god
Trader wasn't out, he played. Unless I missed him getting hurt. He had a great block for Fletcher earlier in the game.

He did everything that was asked of him. WR’s got no separation bc their DBs are both really good and really grabby. Play calling was conservative as well. He was brought here to win games, not be Cam Ward. He’s now 1-0 with a win against a top 6 team.

If Beck remains healthy this season 🙏🏻 he will unequivocally be the second best QB we’ve had since Ken Dorsey, after Cam Ward. We should all be extremely grateful to have him. He did great last night. He can’t control the conservative playcalling in the 4th Q. We can win the ACC and make the playoffs with Beck leading us.

More running from spread out sets and not bunch. Please incorporate some more play action.

If we do those things, I'll be very happy and think this unit can be really good. Should only get better as the year goes on. Beck's first start with Dawson, lots of new guys finding their footing. Great to see Toney be as advertised. Same with Daniels. Think Jojo will get going soon.

Beck isn’t a generational talent…you don’t say 😂

But can Beck be good to great in THIS offense…yes I do think so.

My only question is gonna be the OC/HC mentality to play calling and game management.
And will Beck change plays the way Cam did.... NGL, he made me nervous with those rpo hand offs. a few times I thought he should have thrown it and the delayed handoff to the RB resulted in little yards gained.

I think it will all fall into place as the season progresses. USF will be another test for the defense, with their pace of play.

I think Beck will likely tell you it was not his best game.

He missed on two really easy WR screens where he threw ball into the ground both times. He should have been 22/30. He also did not put enough air on a deep throw to Jojo (I think). Jojo had a step on the DB too. I'm not sure if he would have brought it down, but he didn't even give Jojo the chance to make a play.

But I think Beck is only going to get better. If what the pundits say is true, that'll be one of it not the best defense we play. And he'll grow more athletically confident after the injury. There's a big mental component to coming off a bad injury. Maybe it was me, but I thought he was a tad rushed in the pocket. The game will slow down for him as the season progresses and he grows trust in the OL.
