Cam Vaughn commits

That was the case last season too and Bauman was always on the field.
No we weren't nearly as deeep at WR as we will be this coming year. You had a solid top 3, with CJ being hurt a lot. Johnson was coming on then got hurt. Then you had Jojo (enigma) and the other freshmen, another one of which got hurt. We really were not all that deep.

Agree we were not as deep as we will be this year but there was still enough talent and depth to not have someone as Bauman play so much.

Wr was nowhere close to as talented in 25. The OL was the strength as well as the run game. Physicality was the identity. On top of that we had a game manager at qb. Next year the OL won’t be as talented or deep. Wr drastically deeper and more talented. Qb more of a Ward than game manager. The identity will have to change to match the skill sets. More finesse which should mean less tight ends and more wr’s. That would also help protect the OL.

How do the other receivers on the roster not have the opportunity to prove themselves? There will be an open competition in spring and fall practices and the cream will rise to the top, same as what happens in all top programs around the country.

We got Charles Brantley last year at cb and the expectation from most on here was that he would either start or get extensive playing time. In open competition he was beat out by better players (both transfers and high school signees) and we didn’t see him play the entire year. Same situation here. To remain in the upper echelon of CFB you need your starting players to earn their spots through hard fought, healthy competition with other top players. Limiting your options and promoting players without making them earn their spots through competition with other top level talent risks promoting players who would otherwise have no business starting for a top level program.
And how you wind up with the D. Wiggins and Mark Pope’s of the world starting for multiple seasons in your program. If a kid has it, he’ll play just like Mali did, regardless of age.
