Hooowee, that is a real slap tothe clown school’s overall recruiting and more specifically their D line coach
Had a funny interview to their 247 team about the lack of effort FSU staff put into recruiting him.
Thomas County Central (Ga.) four-star edge rusher Cam Brooks surprised many this spring when he made a commitment to California. The South Georgia native making the decision to commit to the Golden Bears, a program completely across the country, over local Florida State and a number of other top programs was shocking.
About a month since his pledge to Cal, Brooks is still feeling great about that decision. An April unofficial visit to their campus was the deciding factor and why he made an early commitment to the ACC program.
"I still feel great about it. When I went up there, they showed me a lot," Brooks told Noles247.com on Wednesday night. "They showed me the plan they have for me and I just feel like that's the best plan I've seen in all of the visits I've been to. Even though it's far away -- but that's pretty much it."
While he does say all of the right things about Cal, the 6-foot-2.5, 225-pounder has not yet shut down his recruitment.
"Nah I haven't shut it down yet. I'm thinking about it. Still a couple schools reaching out," he shared.
One of those programs reaching out and the one he seems to primarily considering outside of Cal is Florida State.
Much has been talked about when it comes to whether the Seminoles were putting in the requisite amount of effort recruiting Brooks leading up to his pledge to Cal. It sounds like Brooks didn't feel wanted by the 'Noles -- who have picked up their communication with Brooks since he made his commitment.
"Yeah I think Florida State didn't really want me. I feel like they're been showing up because I committed to Cal. But as far as them wanting me, if I'm being real, it doesn't feel like they really want me," Brooks said.
He says after he made his commitment to Cal in late April, communication with FSU's coaching staff, namely defensive line coach Terrance Knighton has picked up. Brooks feels like that is taking place due to him now being committed to another school.
"It changed but like I said, it changed because I committed. He reached out more. He's starting to reach out more," Brooks said of Knighton's communication with him as of late.
While it sounds like things have been shakey between Brooks and the 'Noles, he does still intend on taking an official visit to Tallahassee in June. A move being encouraged by his monther, who wants Brooks to give FSU a second shot of sorts in his recruitment.
"I think I'm going to end up doing it because my mom wants me to," Brooks said of his official visit plans with FSU. "If it was up to me, I probably wouldn't be doing it, if I'm being honest. She still wants us to hear them out. She's a firm believer in second chances. She's one of those [people]."
