Calling all track and weightlifting people

Shot put is insanely good. Records for TF are really good so you should have no problem finding them online. I can dig them up if you need.

The impressive thing on the bench is having the length of arms he has. Weightlifting records under 18 aren’t as easy to dig up.

He benched 500 pounds, as a 6'8" 315 pound 16 year old kid. Insane for a kid with arms that long to be able to handle that kind of weight. Insane. Was oommented that he did a set of 10 reps with 400 pounds. More than half the OL / DL in the NFL can't do that.

How many guys on the team can bench 500 right now? I’m fairly certain that Dan Sileo holds the record for bench press at 535, which he did as a college junior/senior. Cantwell did 500 as a 16 year old high school junior. Sileo is 6’1”. Cantwell 6’8”.
Well Dan Sileo did know Jerome Brown an JJ was going to send him his championship ring.

I know we have some posters who are really dialed into Track & Field and weightlifting. Can you help put some of these numbers in context for a kid who is still 16?

One thing to note is a high school shot is 12 lbs, college and international is 16…but he’s still outrageously strong. James Johnson and Malik Morris both are very good high school throwers, throwing 15-20 feet shorter

Maybe he's referring to NIL paperwork?🤷🏻‍♂️
Agree. Does that lock him in legally? I would think not based on what I've seen. Just curious.

Family doesn't seem like the flipping type.. but 6-6 can do funny things to a man

No frame of reference for shot put but the bench press is insane. That’s 1% stuff right there. Like guys have pointed out, bench press is not a long armed sport. The greater distribution of muscle is a hindrance and much more impressive. If you look up some of the guys in strong man competitions weights they are in this neighborhood and they make a living off it. He’s just working out with his father. His father is certainly giving him Olympic level lifting instruction. And to be able to retain the explosive energy to hurl an iron ball at record distances is crazy. All this at 16.

With all the flipped commitments throughout recruiting it would seem the NIL contract would not

Well if Miami can sign all 3 of them for the 2026 class, then that gives UM track some very good pieces and give football some next level players from Midwest, Polk County and County of Dade!!!

Go Canes
