Cager

What's Berrios done since being named to some arbitrary mid-season award list?

Again, great kid, great leader, superb human being, one of my favorite players on the team, just not a great college football player.

Perfect in his role on this team, but even within our own conference there's guys like Greg Dortch, TJ Rahming, Cam Phillips, Auden Tate, Dion Cain, Steve Ishmael who are simply better at football, and I'm fine with that.

The intangibles Berrios have are unmatched. If you wanna discredit them (which you are) that’s cool. Being someone who played the game from 6-20 I understand what guys like him mean to the team. BTW he will be playing on Sundays so if that’s average then sign me up.

I've gone out of my way to credit him for his intangibles, but you seem **** bent on proving how much of a fan/expert you are, so I'll let you have this one.

Appreciate it.

I don't think that just because Brixton is playing on sundays means you get to just "sign up" and be a pro footballer.

****, I kinda thought that sounded too good to be true.

I think that he is better than average. CMR said that Berrios is the best route runner on the team. Good route running, good speed(4.4), good hands. If he keeps being productive catching, kickoff returns etc he's playing on Sundays next year.

The Patriots would take him.

Dude is looking more & more like a transfer candidate after the season

I forgot he was still on the team TBH..

You dudes wanted Rosier, Langham, Berrios, and Michael Jackson to transfer too right?

I never wanted Rosier to transfer, i even said i wished they get him reps last year because i was not a kaaya fan at that point.
I dont think i ever said anyone on that list should transfer. I didnt see enough of Langham but like cager he lacks great speed but
he is stronger, more physical and knows how to catch the ball. Jackson i think i said i could live with. I just stated a fact, Cager has
been beaten out by langham and there is a chance hightower takes reps from him too.

Why in the world would any UM fan denigrate Berrios?

Berrios is a player that many of the top programs would kill for.

I marvel at what "some" fans see and then opine upon...clearly, they live in a world that few are familiar with.

If you're riding with Malik next year, we need the trees with the wide catch radius. I wouldn't get rid of this guy.

Why is this board so obssessed with Cager? He’s never done anything here. He’s good at twitter and being tall. That’s it. He’s never shown anything other than that. I hope he steps up like other guys who have been written off have done, but he’s never displayed any real talent here. It would be nice to have another tall WR who could give Malik easy completions in addition to Langham.

I just don't think he's suddenly become a great player based on the FSU game. He hasn't quite carried it over to our last couple games like I thought he might. Still one of our best players and a great leader, great kid, as I've said again and again but homers only see what they want to see.

I think he’s been hurt lately too though

I am a confessed, habitual, unrepentant homer! But, I also know what a really good football player looks like. Without question, Barrios is a guy who as you said is a great leader, and also extremely versatile, tough and athletic. I simply don't understand why his name would ever come up in an even remotely jaundiced way, on any Canes site.

I suspect that before this season is over your opinion of Berrios will climb much higher.

As for Cager, Richt must drool when watching this kid and his out sized potential. There is no question he has been tentative, but that is not unique when freshly coming off a serious knee injury. It may require another year before he becomes comfortable, but I would place a significant bet that once his confidence returns the name Cager will be synonymous with the best receivers in the country. Don't forget that prior to his injury the reports from coaches and players indicated he was a monster!

Cager needs two things to make an impact. Health and confidence. When that happens, I believe a lot of the people in this thread will have their foot in their mouths.

He needs to get off Twitter and play football. He has no problem racking up tweets in a single day. We need catches.

Cager may have potential but he simply has not shown it consistently in games. He plays very soft, does not use his body well at all, isn't at all aggressive, doesn't protect his QB by trying to bat down bad throws, drops a lot of the passes directed at him etc. This may be due to the injury he sustained or it may be that he is an average/inconsistent receiver. I don't believe he should receive targets in games until he consistently catches the ball in practice. Drops are drive killers and he was the least consistent receiver on the team this year. I hope he continues to improve.

Richards: Except for an unusually high % of drops against Syracuse, he is an elite WR. We are fortunate to have him.

Langham: Underrated & underutilized. He made McFadden look like a pee wee league baller on that last play. Great hands. Clutch. Uses his big frame well. Makes tough catches. Needs to play more (way more).

Berrios: Played extremely hard against FSU and made a series of clutch catches. We would likely have lost that game without his efforts. Would like to see him perform at or close to the FSU level more often. Needs to be used on the right type of routes as his shorter frame means throws have to be more precise than when throwing to Herndon or Langham. Good student and a key member of this team.

Jeff Thomas: starting to develop nicely & showing real flashes that he may become a highly dependable receiver for us. Has great speed & creates separation from DBs. Potential to be elite for us. Very pleased with his recent progress. Looks like a Miami WR.

Herndon (TE): glad he is receiving a lot of targets. Deserves them. Very dependable & good at creating YAC. A real key to our offense. Brings consistency needed to sustain drives. We need to keep feeding him the ball. Will be playing on Sundays in the future.

Others: we have some other good talents but currently #82 , 81, 4, 8 & 23 should be receiving 90% of the targets until others can perform reliably. The biggest issue I see is drops (occasionally caused by turning upfield before catching the ball). If we used the right mix of receivers & they had fewer drops, our offense would be a beast to stop. Rosier isn't getting enough credit. He's doing a great job and is a winner.

exactly . you ever see cager make a catch, he doesnt know how ot use his body or hands. its always a loose wobbly catch. im sorry. this kid takes up too many threads considering the effort other kids are putting in. I mean we hear how great he was in practice. thats probably exaggerated because we also heard nkosi was day 1 starter throughout practice. im sorry. fans like him because he talks crap on twitter. same reason they hated keith bryant. His knee is giving him problems. Richt said he has been dealing with quite a bit of pain in it. Might be the reason for his play.

He is sophomore coming off a serious injury and dealing with some pain in his knee. I am not going to give up on him, it still think he can be elite.
