Cager finds redemption in Orange Bowl and talks LSU opener, Richards recovery

View as article
When they were quick to quit on him, people seemed to forget Big Larry was coming off ACL reconstruction last year and was feeling his way. You saw a glimpse of what’s to come during the last several games of the season.

P.S. Quit nitpicking every article that comes out acting like some old bat with bifocals.

Was just about to type this. WTF is up with all the English professors on here? You dogged Marrero for his grammar now you dog the new guy who is giving us crazy content right now? Smh.

That said, Cager and Langham need to help us out this year. Take pressure of Richards and Thomas/Harley in the slot.

No reason for those two Srs to not at least give us an "AC Tellison 1993" type season at worst! (20+ catches, 500+ yards, 5+ TDs) If they do that means Richards went off big time!

Should be more of a threat a year removed from injury ... Hopefully puts it together. Also I know I'm late with this but just restating how thankful it was just a meniscus injury I just remember how vague the story was when it first was reported I was so nervous

If Cager ever figures out how to use his size he will be a nightmare on the outside. That catch in the Notre Dame game (below) is what he's supposed to look like. I truly hope he steps up in 2018 like I thought he would each of the last two years.

Your poRst is confusing. You said if he ever figures out how to use his size while posting a photo of him doing just that???

Yup. I suspect he may have not been fully recovered (mentally as well as physically) from the knee injury. We saw glimpses last year (ND and Wisc game). Cager, Richards, and Thomas being fully healthy is big this year. Even bigger is having a QB capable of getting the ball to them.

Got my plane tickets booked to Dallas for the LSU game. Sounds like the canes are already looking at it as a statement game. Pumped

Got my plane tickets as well...from SFO as well as a hotel. Should be really fun.

Glad the game is indoors. Dallas is meg hot at that time of the year.

Awesome article.

These guys will all build on each other. If Richards is healthy, he’ll draw doubles until Thomas blows the top off the backfield safety, then they’ll have to play more conservatively and leave Cager wide open on the cross. If our QB (whoever it is) can get the ball to this crew, next year is going to be fun to watch. And much less stressful against the weaker teams.

I agree regarding Pope, but Thomas is not a slot receiver. He will be playing the Z-Receiver, as he did the latter half of last season.

This. People calling Thomas a slot receiver just aren't paying attention.

Honestly, if Cager can play like he did in the bowl game, this WR unit, which will likely be great even if Cager isn't at that level, can truly be elite. Richards is an absolute game changer - an all around elite player, a guy that can do everything as a WR and can change a game in one play, and someone who obviously demands a lot of attention of the other team. With Thomas, Harley and Pope as potential guys in the slot, we have 3 guys with the ability to carve up teams in the middle of the field and also the ability to take the top off the defense.

Having a big WR with the athleticism of Cager gives our QB someone who can make tough contested catches and act as a really good target in the red zone. While Langham is a big WR and obviously made some huge catches, Cager's athleticism makes him even more dangerous...if he plays aggressively, blocks like Dugans demands of his WRs, and plays like he did in the bowl game. If he does that, it makes it near impossible for other teams to match up against our WRs. Now, we just need our QB to get these guys the ball consistently...
All true about Cager. Langham too. But are we remembering the possibilities with Njoku? Talking 'bout athleticism, height AND speed!!! Not sure how well he's recovered from last years injury or done under Gus F, but if he's ready and can be added in the mix then our danger meter goes even higher.

He will be a problem if he plays with the same aggression he finished last season with.

The hesitation he showed early, especially on 50/50 balls, looked completely gone.

Go watch his HS highlight tape.. he played every WR spot in HS.. the only reason why he didn’t play the slot last year was because Braxton was the most consistent WR last year and it made sense to have Thomas on the outside last year to open the field with his 9 route

Another thread where many posters are intent on placing Jeff Thomas in the slot. Offense is different than what it used to be. Flankers look different than they once did. Sure, he can play the slot. But, we're wasting a ton of big plays (Corners and Posts) by not giving him looks outside.

The only thing stopping Thomas from making huge plays every game is the QB. He’s almost uncoverable.
