We played Cal in the Emerald Bowl in San Fran in '08
 
Last time I was in the Salt Lake City area you could have wine with dinner and everything. We had a nice cab with dinner, and followed it up with a nice Washington riesling. I think the days of not drinking there are over. It’s not like I go there that often though, maybe somebody that lives in that area can update me.

Let me fill you all in. The scenery is nice. The fans are rabid because it's a release for them from the strictness of their lives. even the soda in the stadium is caffeign free. Forget about beer, etc. One of the most miserable experiences of my Canes football travels was being there for the egg we laid in a loss. But there is a reason for going. Take some time in the university bookstore. It right out of One Flew Over The Cukoos Nest.
 
No booze, no caffien, crazed crowd because it's their release from their otherwise life. The scenery is nice, and we owe them one. A trip to the university bookstore is right out of One Flew Over The Cookoos Nest.

I've got buddies who snowboard in Park City a lot and from what I've heard, drinking isn't a huge hassle but there's some weird rules. Apparently, you can drink in restaurants no problem but bars are technically "private clubs" but you can circumvent that law by offering one night "memberships" to people who want to drink there. If you order a mixed drink, they can't pour you anything over 1.5oz at a time so if you want a double, you order two drinks and they give you a sidecar shotglass full. Not sure if that's still a thing though. They might be able to legally pour you a strong drink now.

Buying alcohol in stores is another weird adventure. You can't just buy liquor or beer at any old gas station. You have to go to state liquor stores. I believe you can get regular strength beer these days but for a while it was all 3% beers which makes Bud Light feel like Wild Turkey. Funny story, my mom inherited a little grocery mart in Idaho that was right across the border from Utah. They were only open during summer months and a big part of their sales were beer and wine to people coming from Utah because it was less hassle, cheaper and better selection in Idaho.

Yeah I vaguely remember something like that. Last time I was in Salt Lake was about six or seven years ago and honestly the only time I drank was with dinner and it was wine and I think that’s all kosher anyway like you said. You want to but talk about some weird stuff, it’s not so much this way anymore, but look at the weird shlt they used to do in Pennsylvania. There were some places where you go to a restaurant you couldn’t get anything to drink. You had to go to these fūcking bottle stores and bring your booze in if you wanted to have a beer with your sushi.
 
The season-opening loss at BYU in 1990 is probably the worst regular season loss of the 80s-mid-90s era. Number 1 ranked and defending NC, losing to a WAC team. The same Miami team crushed Texas 46-3 in the Cotton Bowl.

The only regular-season loss perhaps as bad was the 1994 home loss to Washington, ending the 58-game home win streak.
