By The Numbers

we’ve been a joke for 2 decades. The Mario hire was a Hail Mary. Major investment and bringing in a coach who built a good program out in Oregon. If this doesn’t work it will be back to first time head coaches or retreads. Toxic fan base, some of the worst media in the country, no home stadium, zero investment until recently, and minimal fan base. This job isn’t as appealing as many make it out to be.
Randy Shannon
Al Golden
Mark Richt
Manny Diaz
Mario Cristobal

If Mark Richt wasnt dealing with Parkinsons and had the money investment we have now, we would be in a very good spot. I have no doubts that he was already dealing with the aforementioned health issues by 2018, when we had our worst year under him (7-6). Just bad luck there. So close to the perfect window.

I wish Herbstreit would have went on the air right after the Clemson blowouts loss in 2015. Then the heavy investment and then hire Richt and then he and his wife never gotten sick.

We would be in such a good position. Feels like we missed our shot.

Mario isn't here for the money, but it took $8M to lure him from Oregon.

What was he making at Oregon and didn’t he turn down their match?

Point taken, but it isn't 30-40 other schools. Might be debatable at 5-10 actually.
Alabama
Georgia

Auburn

Just a few off the top of my head. The only reason the investment is here is because it’s Mario. He doesn’t succeed here and that $ goes away. If he can’t recruit here no one is going to be able to. There are so many barriers to succeeding here I am beginning to question if anyone can turn this around. We were 4-0 and the stadium was half full for a conference night game and the crowd was booing by what, the 3rd quarter? All those schools I listed above are far and away better jobs at this point with better facilities, fans and infrastructure. Like I said if coach X has a choice between 8 mil here and 8 mil at any one of those (and there’s probably more) they’re choosing the above 9/10 times.

with identical HC and staff packages, I think we could debate several of those schools friend as to where a corching candidate would pick "School X vs Miami".

Love how you mentioned Auburn twice...War **** Eagle!

Your looking at it through the lens as a fan of a team. Match salaries and staff salaries and those other schools are the pick 9/10 times.

Except Mario did the following:

Opened the General School Fund. You dont close that.

Were building a brand new football operations facility.

The administration is actually giving a ****.

I get it it's easy to pile on but Mario has already dont things no coach in the history of UM football has done and those changes don't get turned back easily.

I know of a guy who would take 8 mil at Miami over his current job and currently ranked in the top 10. He doesn't like the brown water at his current location but loves the Freshwater of South Florida.....

I would trade staffs with Oregon in a heart beat

I’m out on Dawson. He’s mid as ****. I’m hoping a QB change sparks Dawson, but his stinker games materially outweigh his one gem (Texas AM)

Lane would use the offer to get more out of his current job.
